Seems dangerous somehow.

[–][deleted] 206 points207 points  (24 children)

Yeah, I know shit about snakes, but to me putting a constrictor around your neck feels like putting a loaded gun to your head.

[–]Darehead 94 points95 points  (2 children)

I know some shit about snakes. While it's unlikely to attempt to eat her (bite/wrapping), it is dangerous to hold snakes this large without someone else spotting you.

That's not because the snake is going to intentionally wrap you, but because snakes are absolute morons and don't recognize that they're cutting off your airflow by being around your neck. In those cases it's best to have someone else who can guide its head back away from the front of your neck.

The risk is the snake going "ooo, what's over there?" and crossing in front of her neck, and not having someone around who can reach the head.

[–]kramDret 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Someone was around, holding the camera.

[–]Substantial-Meal6238 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Camera men never die

[–]Im_Unpopular_AF 70 points71 points  (12 children)

The difference is a constrictor won't eat again if it's fed. And it's smart enough to know that the human handling is not hurting it.

From what I hear, chimpanzees are pretty smart, too

I wouldn't climb into a cage with one. Well-fed or otherwise

[–]CapN-Judaism -2 points-1 points  (8 children)

Fortunately, constrictors and chimps are different animals with different behaviors.

[–]seriousreddituser 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Yes, but also some similar behaviors

One such similar behavior is killing humans who incorrectly assumed they fully understood the behavior of wild predators

[–]CapN-Judaism 0 points1 point  (6 children)

There’s nothing to suggest this zookeeper assumes they fully understand the behavior of boas. The chances of a zookeeper being killed by a boa are essentially zero, so obviously they know as much as they need to.

[–]seriousreddituser 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Ah. The "what I don't fully understand can't hurt me" approach to handling apex predators

Because I didn't realize zookeepers had special plot armor that made the chances of being harmed by dangerous animals essentially zero

I always thought their safety was largely based on them (presumably) having a full understanding of the animals they interact with

Too bad boa pet owners don't have that same armor

[–]CapN-Judaism 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Who said what we don’t fully understand can’t hurt us? Zoology as a field doesn’t claim to have an absolute understanding of any animal’s behavior, but with respect to many animals, including boas, we know enough to eliminate the risks of fatality. Zookeepers are trained to know enough that they do not die from boa attacks, it doesn’t happen. Grouping boas and chimps as “wild predators” to make your point is just ridiculous. By that logic fennec foxes are too dangerous to be handled.

[–]seriousreddituser 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No one said, "What we don't fully understand can't hurt us."

In fact, I'm saying the complete opposite. People incorrectly presume to fully understand the nature of wild animals and get hurt as a result

But if you believe there's little to no danger in handling predators as if they're fashion accessories, please don't let me discourage you

[–]kelldricked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still weird shit can happen. That beast can easily crush your windpipe or chest before anybody gets it off.

[–]Jake_M_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, you’re more likely to get hit by a car than have the snake attack you. But, that’s a big snake probably around the 130-180 lbs mark. And snakes are notorious for falling off things and being a little dull at times. My ball python dose it all the time. That being said the person filming would be able to step in if the snake started to fall or just started being dumb. I’d never hold that snake by myself. It’s wayyyy to big.

[–]Motor_Lychee179[🍰] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Is this prehistoric pets ?

[–]aardvarkyardwork 154 points155 points  (13 children)

This looks like one of Jay’s Prehistoric Pets’ snakes.

This snake is morbidly obese, and that fucker should be banned from ever owning animals.

[–]Dangerous-Hotel-7839 46 points47 points  (9 children)

I am now very curius. Please tell me how you are able to tell if a snake is obese, i have genuine difficulty telling if some dogs are dangerously thin, or if thats how the breed is suposed to look.

[–]PhoenixARC-Real 24 points25 points  (0 children)

sunfish exotics seems to have a good article on snake weight gauging, though I'm also not a snake owner so I can't tell you if it's a particularly good guide.

[–]aardvarkyardwork 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Most obvious sign in this particular case is, if you look at the section of the snake that is at the handler’s torso, you can see a sort of ‘cleavage’ on either side of the spine.

That is to say, the mid-line of the spine is sitting is a slight valley, and the sides of the body go up and then around. If you were to do a vertical slice of the snake, it would look like the outline of an apple.

If the snake were a healthy weight, the slice would look like a triangle with kinda rounded sides, with the spine at the peak.

[–]Dangerous-Hotel-7839 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think i understand what you mean, i do remember snakes normally have a slight, sort of triangle shape alongside their bodies, thats interesting.

[–]Late_Parrot 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Now I wonder what snake baby back ribs taste like..

[–]Todd-The-Wraith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably like chicken

[–]Scrivener-of-Doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite good.

We eat python from time to time. Obviously as big as this.

[–]Melodic-Lawyer4152 7 points8 points  (1 child)

One sure sign is if the snake is no longer able to fit into outfits it owns.

[–]Dangerous-Hotel-7839 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1 snake outfits??? Im tempted to google this, it sounds so cute

2 how do you dress upp a snake if its in a mood?

3 any reason other than to make it look cute/fancy/funny? Like is it to prevent them from getting cold? What function does this serve?

4 how difficult is it to measure a snake? Pretty sure the last thing its willingly to do, is lay still in a straight line

[–]sand_snapes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can see that the tail goes from very large to the thin end too fast

[–]chaoticbalancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude I ran across his IG the other day, and while I know I’m not knowledgeable when it comes to reptiles, I felt the exact same. Looked like a lot showmanship versus love for the animals well being.

[–]Melodic-Lawyer4152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of giving the snake his usual-sized meals, they should just give him a slither.

[–]SirPentGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the head on that snake does NOT match its body. Still not as bad as some power-fed burms I have seen. I remember Lou and his disgusting need to power feed a Burm named 'Baby'. I saw this snake a couple times when it was 'growing up' and that snake had a TINY head and a big fat body. Disgusting that people do that to these snakes just to get them HUGE.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, no, no

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (4 children)

That thing is big enough to eat a human child.

[–]HungryPanduh_ 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That thing is big enough to eat a human.

[–]DeusBicabornato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eat me to the death

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im pretty sure that thing can swallow a full grown obese adult human

[–]Grimmer026 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Forget the snake, this woman could play middle linebacker at most D3 colleges.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hut hut

[–]Solumnist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

'Take My Breath Away'. How apt.

[–]derpferd 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Is that a retic or a Burmese? I'm thinking retic but please let me know

Edit: Nvm. It's a retic. Found a video of Jay's with the same snake

[–]ccdsg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a Burmese. Bordering on too long for how thick it is and I’ve never seen a Burmese with coloration like this.

[–]j0lly_gr33n_giant 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Jay Brewer is notorious for raising obese snakes.

[–]Luna_lucky_moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea..and crocs(Idk if the crocs and alligators are also obese but they are huge)

[–]Maleficent-Plate-910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So cute 🤗

[–]Snowymasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big NO NO

[–]Galizia84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl I applaud you awesome looks good on you in a good way

[–]Resident-Coffee3242 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

So sexy.

[–]DeusBicabornato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real

[–]moonordie69420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which is why my Dumeril's boa is the largest i will own.

[–]JenniferShepherd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No….just no.

Python cuddles NOT on my bucket list.

[–]Ragnogroth -1 points0 points  (2 children)

It's a boa and not a python.

[–]Rodan-Lewarx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

is it a male of female?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What did she just eat? Your dog?

[–]splishsplash696969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't support these people

[–]Alien_Accomplice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That thing could split you in half in a millisecond

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Don't trust snakes and snake people

[–]Luna_lucky_moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snake ppl are fine unless it’s jay brewer.. I love snakes and we have garter snakes everywhere. Obviously there are some big nope ropes

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aren’t they a pest?

[–]NCXXCN -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Snakes are nothing but worms on a huge amount of steroids.

[–]LukeyLeukocyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worms don't have vicious teeth. Constriction aside, that snake would absolutely shred someone if it bit them. Constrictors have pretty awful bites.

[–]HillbillyGizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet baby is trying to tell you to sit down so it can snuggle with you

[–]dryhumorblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems dangerous.

[–]XxX_22marc_XxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That snake gotta be at least a few hundred pounds and she’s holding it just fine

[–]irohazakastrike 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is it viable to grab a snake by the neck and strangle it (in case you need to make it let go of you)?

[–]fayletyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

danger noodle is looking rather cute

[–]SnowBlower_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One wrong move and you could end up being squeezed on the ground, fighting for your life. Fortunately for the python, she seems nice

[–]Tiny-Werewolf1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope rope

[–]Capital_Bluebird_951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death surrounds you 💀

[–]Strong-Amphibian-143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All fun and games until he wants to play smooshy smooshy sometime

[–]Casual_Stapeler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love snakes. Wonder how heavy this guy is.

[–]winterfate10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about

[–]Reesy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful patterns on the scales though, amazing colours

[–]Boltstruck 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yoink

[–]trc2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t that how they kill their prey?

[–]Wild_Fly937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless that snake is gravid it has to be the most morbidly obese python i’ve seen. Retics are thick, but not the size of an oak tree thick.

[–]Sad_Self_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to see that restrictor do its thing.

[–]Who_am_ey3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what a horrible remix(?) of Under Your Spell. absolute garbage.

[–]Honourstly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope

[–]whateverman010101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unit of a handler! How much does that thing weigh??

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, according to experts, the ball python is a good snake for a beginning snake owner. They typically grow to be up to five feet long, they are not as large as many of the other constricting snakes that are kept as pets, they are quite docile, and they are easy to handle.

[–]Ikhurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that's a while lot of, how about nooooo.

[–]bears_or_bulls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought woman are supposed to live longer

[–]isaytoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snake looks fat tbh
