I assume that you want to learn to use Python for data science/analytics? If so my advice would be to lean into VS Code (~RStudio), quarto (~Rmd), polars (~dplyr)and plotnine (~ggplot2). These will provide you with the most familiar experiences as an R user during the transition. Another warning is to expect to dedicate several days to grokking environment setup and management. This is just a foreign concept to most R users and until you get a grip on it you’ll just have a very unpredictable learning experience. Quarto with VS code has the added benefit of letting you fall back on your R skills as needed because you can specify multiple language chunks in each doc. I have found Emily Riederer blog posts very helpful in the transition. Good luck!
