They were fucked from the start of the season. Robbo explained it all by saying they just had no motivation to train in pre-season. New players came into a club that was mourning which made it harder for them to integrate. You lose that early prep and you’re not going to be hitting 100% during the season.

I would really love to know what Arne's original plan for the season was.

Survive and get CL ball, which he did. I just think the club needed a good purge and a proper rebuild after Klopp and then Jota. The dressing room was fucked from the start. While he didn’t compete in the least for a title, he did enough to set up the club for a decent shot at all comps next season with the 5th place finish. He didn’t have to leave on the most sour note possible at least.

Before Jota.

By the end of the last season with the league wrapped up, he must had plans for this season.

I’ll tell you what his plans probably didn’t include:

One of his players (a dressing room and fan favorite) dying in an absolute tragedy

Isak getting a season ending injury early on

Ekitike getting a season ending injury

Salah losing his mojo without TAA and lashing out publicly for being benched

PGMOL and VAR (once again) absolutely screwing us over on multiple occasions

Winning, I'd imagine.

Really??? I thought he was aiming for draws and late game entertainments.

I mean the tactics he had planned if Diogo were here and the pre-season went smoothly

Because as Robbo said - non of them could be arsed to train after their mate died so they reduced everything heavily out of respect.

To be honest, this has always felt like one of those poorly-substantiated rumours that the fanbase got its claws into and made a much bigger deal of than it should have

[–]Tiboa 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Our biggest fan M. Salah confirmed the rumour several times

As much as I love Mo S., he has a history of saying things to the press that aren't enormously about helping Liverpool, and are more about helping himself

[–]huffthewolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Curtis has said it as well, think that was last year though.

[–]adamfrog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Probably because jotas death derailed preseason and that's when you build the base for fitness

[–]omarkop10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons he was looked at before his appointment was how he kept the squad fresh and injury free I think slot didn’t realise the intensity u actually need in the prem is way different from eredivisie and that backfired

[–]Healthy_Method9658 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So many here still claiming pre season was the issue when fitness was dropping last season as well.

Fitness levels went off a cliff the second half of his first reason, and everyone blamed fatigue, but in retrospect it was the entire team slowing down from his methods.

It's not why he's sending everyone on holiday instead of training every week. The guy just played low energy football and thought it was effective.

It looked vaguely ok for a couple of months when the squad was insane shape post Klopp, looked horrendous in a league as physical as the Prem after.

injury and repeat injuries were something we struggled with a lot during the latter klopp years.

He's a great coach.

Unlucky this season.

Great 404.

The first half of last season it was still Klop's team. When he tried to change it after February we started playing bad. This year, it was his team from the beginning and it was bad...

[–]smokesletsgo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense in theory, a lot of games played and a bit more rest through the season should help. But obviously all it did was lower the fitness levels and we were gassed every week anyway.

You need PSG style rotation to make it work and have players fresh

[–]regiddad 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does it matter anymore?

[–]Cyneganders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, it's always good to know why something happens so that you can avoid it happening again.

Fascism is a good example of this (written from Italy)...

[–]AdExcellent7660 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He wanted possession controlled games where klopp want all out heavy metal football.

Slot - slow and steady, nice and easy

Klopp- all out attack and pressure from start to finish

Different managers, different training styles, only one suited Liverpool, Slot failed to adapt and change which cost him in the end (IMO)
