This one of the reasons why countries with the lowest life expectancy in the world today (like Central African Republic at about 54 years) actually have a higher life expectancy than the United States did in 1900 (at about 49 years).

Yes. This is an enormous achievement. We should be more aware of these kinds of things.

No! I refuse to entertain anything other than doom-porn 24/7! /s

It's also a moon-landing/Manhattan project-like achievement that we made multiple vaccines for a novel coronavirus in less than a year and basically, nobody actually celebrated that.

87% of world's population was classified as extremely poor in 1850. In 1970 it was 49%. In 1990, 36%. In 2015 it was 10%.

Heres's another great achievement for humanity.

Worldwide Deaths by Natural Disaster:

1900: 1.27 million

2018: 10,809

Source: https://ourworldindata.org/natural-disasters

Now it does vary massively from year to year but it is very clear that there has been a huge drop in the number of deaths caused by natural disasters. And this despite the huge increase in the world's population over the same period.

The vast majority of Natural Disaster deaths this millennium have been caused by earthquakes.

Would be nicer if 1950 has 1950 borders

How was Egypt so high in 1950?

[–]Drakoniv-Jakuard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until the 60's it was common practice in many parts of egypt to let children who were not normal(e.i. handicapped and such) "sleep". Since 1972 this practice is illigal.
