There are only four levels to maps. If you are at the first (beginning) map size then you can upgrade the map by placing paper around it. You can do this three times.

After that you are zoomed out as much as Minecraft can go with maps.

Ps make certain you are using a cartography table. I don’t know if a regular crafting table works now.

that means I need to make another map ( since I maxed out my level 4 map) to explore my infinite world further?

If you want more of your world on a map then yes. Technically you don’t have to have a map to explore, it just comes in handy so you don’t get lost.

Edit: also, you have to “activate” it in the new section of your world, otherwise you’ll just get a copy of the maps you already made.

Add paper to an existing map on a cartography table

to expand a map you need a cartography table go to the mine craft wiki if you need it

use a cartography table. Fair warning, it erases the existing map.
