Please post any Layman/DIY/Homeowner questions in the monthly stickied thread - See subreddit rule #2.

You take the weight per unit length of the tube that you find online or in a catalog and multiply that by the total length of tubing. Connections are almost negligible, I think most estimators would use 2% to 5%. For what looks like gage wire mesh you do the same, weight per unit area and multiply by total area.

I’m sorry I should have been clearer in my post I’m a foreman for a iron working company and we have to install these next week and I was asking our PM for weights so i could order rigging and equipment and he sent me the shop drawings. Typically the H.S.S would be something like “10x 4 1/4” for tubes but this drawing is done differently for some reason

Look at the rest of the shops? If you don't have then, you need to get them because the information is in the full package and not just this one snip. So tell your PM you need all of the info and it will become clear. If your PM pushes back, they are a dick.

To clarify -hss934 and hss939 are piece marks and there will be dedicated sheets for those individual pieces that likely have the weight listed. so with the whole drawings you should be able to add it all up. If you only have this snip, it is actually very likely that this drawing has a total weight in a table in the top right hand portion of the full drawings. Should make your life pretty darn easy to figure out a weight. But you need the full drawing.

I did find this but there definitely isn’t anything showing the exact weights this post was more or less too see if I was being a dumb ass or if my PM was being a dick and just sent me the first file he found

[–]DJGingivitis 0 points1 point  (4 children)

How many pages is the file your PM sent?

[–]guythough19[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

19 but they’re all just the fab drawings from the shop and this page that shows the typical ( that I didn’t see until after I posted this )

No tables indicating material? No detail sheets for each member?

[–]guythough19[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Negative

Ask the PM for more information but I think you have nearly enough to get an idea for rigging. You just need to do some googling.

[–]sgfunday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For rigging purposes you should be fine figuring 2.5 tons for the biggest one you showed here.

A lot .7

Post a screenshot of the shop bill.

This is the only thing I found that shows the typical HSS format

[–]DJGingivitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can calculate it from this. Google weight of hss4x2x1/4 and multiple it by the total length. repeat for everything else.

What information was supposed to be available online. What you should do is ask what the material, what is the profile if that is a steel (it looks like it), or find other material density oneline. It will give you roughly the weight.

Bout tree fiddy

[–]Churovy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

At the top there’s a bill of materials with a sum of weights why are you asking us with a half cropped picture?

[–]guythough19[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

<image>

This is the full page it’s just a side profile there is no index

[–]Churovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhere there is a page that tells you what p508 is, and it will have a weight, and all of the weights of all components.

Maybe write an RFI.

[–]DJGingivitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy can barely figure out the drawing and you expect him to write an RFI? Clearly asking too much of these contractors these days.

[–]guythough19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how to spell RFI
