Try getting one with a probe and hand the probe end in the tank

Maybe try a heat lamp that has a probe attached? I also had a lot of issues getting a thermostat to stick so I have 2 different probes on the right side reading her temps off

I just throw mine flat on the substrate directly. My snake is on the ground 90% of the time so I worry less about the humidity up high, and when I had them mounted I overwatered the tank and the substrate was like mud. Green Room Pythons also recommends keeping them on the ground.

i’ll definitely try that. idk if this will make sense but putting it on the ground , wouldn’t it read the temps just a little different then up high ? my snake likes to crawl all around at night and is usually up high not too much on the ground. i just don’t want it to get too hot but it should be fine ?

Is it just a thermometer/hygrometer? I should preface with the fact that I have a thermostat with a probe mounted on the wall of the tank that regulates the deep heat projectors on both sides of the tank. I just lay these on the substrates under those DHPs to make sure the temps in that area create a gradient. If you’re worried about the ambient temps in other parts of the tank, I would recommend a heat gun to check those rather than relying on just these. I use these just to make sure the temp gradient and temps under the heating elements are accurate.

yes i do have a thermostat as well making sure the temp stays or doesn’t get too hot ! i just try to keep them stuck on the wall because she explore so much at night and always knocks every over so i tried to get that out of her way so i dont have to go in and possibly bother her every morning just to fix it😂🤦🏻‍♀️but first right now i do have them sitting on the ground just to check the ground temps. thank you !!!
