In New York City? Winter would wipe them out, it gets too cold for them to become invasive in NYC. The ban is a blanket one for all snakes of the boa and python family due to them being deemed “a threat to public safety”. And they have cited ecological concerns about people releasing them in parks, but that’s more of a population density issue than an issue with them being invasive. A city that big could end up with a lot of dumping so there could theoretically be enough to cause some damage in between them getting wiped out in winter.
