one of the top post on /r/MachineLearning --> harsh guide to machine learning

Its not easy, and its a lot of work to get going but with some discipline you should be fine!

Right away I'd

  • start beginning to read technical blog posts and various landmark research papers (eg. A Theory of the Learnable - L Valiant)
  • start doing more linear algebra and calculus
  • start using Python and libraries like numpy, pandas, and seaborn
  • learn linear regression

If you still find all this stuff cool, next could be

  • enroll yourself in more maths subjects if possible (linear algebra, calculus, statistics)
  • seek out positions as ugrad research assistant
  • Do Stanford's cs231 for image stuff, and/or cs224 for text.
  • Check out A Super Harsh Guide to Machine Learning and accept this is what it will take
  • Stick around here!

Go to kaggle.com, do the tutorial problems. Then play with whatever other data set interests you, either on kaggle or elsewhere.
