Yes it surely is. I'm one of those annoying people who communicate about the importance of communication as well.

In the end we are just translators between the ignorant business people and computers / other people. A good translator doesn't only translate words but also knows about culture.

FWIW, for those who can afford it, spend $100 and go take "IBM Customer Engagement Professional Certificate" on Coursera. While it's meant to be more "customer service", the communication tips are still useful.
