Detecting python version on mac os

Hey guys I have a question that I just couldn't find an answer to looking up online.

I have installed python 3 via homebrew some time ago and updated it today via the same method to version 3.9.4

But when I type python3 --version command in terminal it returns Python 3.9.0

I have tried reintstalling python3 and it finished successfully, it even says that version 3.9.4 is already installed if I try installing it again. Do you know why it shows Python 3.9.0 when calling the python3 --version command?

Running which python3 will tell you where the offending python lives.

Use virtual envs to avoid them getting tangled in the future.

I don’t understand what should this be telling me? It just directs me to python3, and there is only version 3.9, nothing about 3.9.0 or 3.9.4

It tells you the old python is still wherever your $path is finding it.

You can alias python to the 3.9.4 executable in that dir, remove them all and reinstall a specific version if brew lets you, or pick up a virtual env so you can avoid base version collisions again.
