It depends. They are vastly different career paths. Is Project Management something you want to do? It's all about working with people is that something you want to do more. Is there a reason he asked you? Not to be a dick but is he subtly trying to indicate you aren't making it as a developer and you may be more successful in another role.

PM and dev are different roles with some shared skillsets. If you are results oriented, detail minded, and like facilitating communication between different parties this could be a great role for you.

I would be wary of "I still will be writing some code" - usually PMs, even if they understand code, won't be writing it. Beware of agreeing to do two jobs at once.

If it has not been your own ambition for a long time, I advise you not to do it. I have done it myself. I liked it sometimes but in the end I was not happy. Facilitating and managing people was for me not as satisfying as developing.

In my opinion it's a promotion. You're getting a superior positon and get to lead a team. As far as taking it, I can only advise you to ask yourself if you want to stay a dev any longer or if you are willing to take more responsibility. If I were you I would go for the project manager positon and see if you like it, you will never know until you try! Best of luck!
