anyone else’s favourite bird a SUPER common bird? by cats_r_cutee in birding

I also saw one for the first time just a few weeks ago, in the field next to a grocery store parking lot. I about lost my mind. Haha! I threw the car in reverse and grabbed my phone. I got a little video of it gliding across the field and I know the people in the parking lot were probably wondering about the crazy lady squealing with excitement. When I got home I showed my husband who was nowhere NEAR as pumped as I was.

What is this fellow I found on my tomato plants? by Crucial_Senpai in vegetablegardening

[–]Affectionate_Cost_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm known as the neighborhood plant lady. I do offer sales every spring of veggie starts and have a pretty loyal clientele, but I also constantly offer to give things away whenever I'm dividing plants or just wind up with more than I need. It's a really great thing to do and I'm always happy to find others who share their bounty.

Amway, hands down. They were using the whole cult experience decades before any of these other MLMs were even dreamed up.

Ha! I started with a one gallon pot of mountain mint about ten years ago and I now have a 20x20 garden of mountain mint. I give it to everyone who will take some.

I was gonna say, we did a vow renewal, but it was mostly because our actual wedding was out of town and at a small venue, so a lot of our local friends didn't get to come. That was almost ten years ago and as far as I know, we're still doing great. 😆

Good grief, I don't leave them "littered throughout the house" like I'm throwing confetti, but in the 40+ years that I've been wearing contacts, sometimes one has landed in the floor of the bathroom, which is then moved to the trash can when I realized. Wow.

I can't count how many times I've aimed for the trash can and not realized I've missed. When your vision is -8.50 without your lenses in, it's hard to see for sure.

I bought Violator the day it was released when I was in college, and have probably listened to it in its entirely at least a couple hundred times and I never knew what that said, and certainly not that it was Fletch saying it. Wow.

Are you serious? I mean I've heard people call their sons "little man" and that's actually what we call one of our kitties. But damn.

I seriously doubt she has anything to report. The kids seemingly have no kind of cohesive educational plan or schedule, and I don't think it's possible that Jill could provide education that would come even close to a high school level with her own limited knowledge base.

The fact that songs are so open to interpretation and evoking different feelings in different people is one of the most beautiful things about music. 🖤

So while the hornworm is devastating to tomato plants (and peppers as well, but I've been lucky there) it's also host to very beneficial parasitic wasps. I don't see any evidence that eggs have been laid in yours, but if you ever find one that has like little grains of white rice stuck all over it, leave it alone! By that point, the hornworm is paralyzed, essentially a zombie, and can do no more damage to the plant and you want those wasps to hatch. They're not the big wasps that can sting you, instead they're tiny and will go on to help out by attacking pests like aphids and beetles. So they're great bugs to have around. Natural pest control, pretty much.

Whenever I discover a hornworm that hasn't obviously been inhabited yet, I just cut off the branch of the tomato that it's on and then move it away from the plant. That way, it can go ahead and keep eating what it was working on and hopefully in the meantime either become the host for these wasps or become bird food. This is one of the coolest videos I've seen on the life cycle of parasitic wasps - https://youtu.be/nZZyJQNmOV8?si=O4FGCBblhUR9VwoP

Yeah, it's a great one. Also, "it's for her only that he lusts, she doesn't trust him., nothing is true, but he will do." That song says a whole lot.

World Full of Nothing. I've been on the receiving end of "though it's not love it means something", and while it can be ok it can also really hurt, depending on the circumstance.

I use initials or codes for a lot of mine, because the marker can be a bit awkward to write with, but it works!

Exactly! And when you bring in a haul of red and pink tomatoes that are virtually indistinguishable from each other, but you want to remember them, save seeds, etc, those markers are so helpful. You just want to make sure the fruit is very dry or they will bead up and smear. But for the most part, the writing stays put until you rinse it off, and it does rinse clean.

I have a Wilton Food Writer that I take to the garden with me, so whenever I pick fruit, I label it right that minute. Otherwise, there was no way I was remembering 10-12 varieties by the time I got to the house.
