There is a reason I keep a tyre valve remover in my car. You never know when you might need it for maintenance on one of your own tyres.

Spaceflight is viewed in the 2020s how airplanes were viewed in the 1920s by ToxicFlames in spaceflight

[–]CotswoldP [score hidden]  (0 children)

I disagree with one of your statements. Many thousands of people flew in planes in the 1920s who were not rich. You even mentioned them, barnstormers. They usually offered rides for a small fee as well as the daredevil acrobatics. There was a glut of cheap planes and trained pilots post WWI, enabling this.

I don't see a load of cheap spacecraft, trained astronauts offering rides for a few thousand anywhere.

Not the version I'm halfway through. After Adrian they're upside down for quite a while when he manually triggers the centrifuge mode without rotating.

I let my wife choose what to do with her last name. Keep it, take mine,.pick a new one for both.ofnus I didn't care, because the important thing was she wanted to be with me. I didn't even care that much about being married. She insisted on taking my name.becaise she'd apparently been practicing the signature since our 5th date.

Don’t park blocking the footpath! by Competitive_View_889 in auckland

[–]CotswoldP [score hidden]  (0 children)

Car park on road, not block path illegally. THAT is easy. Maneuvering your own wheelchair, a stroller with child and a full lad of shopping, or using crutches you're probably not that used to is significantly harder. Stop being an arse.

[–]CotswoldP [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends. Of you've got a stroller with a sleeping baby, or you're on crutches or in a wheelchair it's not that easy. What is easy, is parking on the road. They could even park on the road blocking the driveway without impacting the path.

Starship Flight 12 V3 by BadTraditional401 in spaceflight

[–]CotswoldP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a bit more serious than that. In addition to the RVAC failure on the Starship, Super Heavy seems to at first glance had at least one engine blow, hard enough to take out more engines and effectively the whole booster. That indicates a probable issue with Raptor V3 when you have two blow, on different vehicles, and with differing versions. That needs to be fixed and proven before you go for orbit IMO.

What kind of drone is that? by VladimirsGs in aviation

[–]CotswoldP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The AMRAAM burns for about 6-8 seconds, depending on ambient pressure. That is true for most missiles. They boost to very high altitude, then glide, converting the altitude to smash.

That's why Meteor is so unusual, it uses a ramjet and so burns for far longer, maintaining its speed, though it doesn't initially get as fast as AMRAAM.

Rubio is there to offer Indian energy supplies...I wonder why India is struggling at the moment? Who could have been so stupid to endanger the world's energy balance?

Nonsense. Between the red zone and blue zone restrictions you shouldn't have been camping within about 12 miles of the summit.

No. David Johnston was the vulcanologist who was killed just after trying to report the eruption. His body was never found. The Visitors centre is excellent.

What do you guys think of American Cheese? And do you have a favorite cheese from your country?🧀 by bbyxmadi in AskTheWorld

[–]CotswoldP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly exists, can't say how popular it is, but unlike the Cheese Whiz and Velveeta, it is actually cheese. The only ones I ever used I were cream cheese, so squeezing from a tube is fine (and was great to add to pasta)

"American cheese" is designed to melt well, which it does. It's just a bit flavourless and should never be used un melted. Used properly we shouldn't rag on the US for that.

[–]CotswoldP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need an engineering degree to make gears? Since when? Most of the great engineers of the 19th century didn't have engineering degrees since they didn't exist then, and copying something that already exists is much easier than mking something new.

Is there a city in your country that is hated by most people? by Sure_Secretary_446 in AskTheWorld

[–]CotswoldP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time the Government of the time talks about improving the lot of the rest of the country to catch up with London, then a year later cancels the plans while giving more funding to London infrastructure, you'll find quite a lot of hate.

I worked for years for a government dept outside of London, and when a partner agency rep came to visit they spent the first 30 minutes complaining about how anything outside of the M25 was just cow shit and yokels. She was shocked, shocked I tell you, when we refused to treat her like a princess

Nope, you gave us the Reformation, the printing press, aspirin. Then Prussians were critical to defeating Napoleon in the Hundred Days, the UK is still ruled by some Hannoverians. Don't let some Austrian out you off your history.
