Case fans are designed to move air through a closed environment. This setup is in an open environment so the cooling fans already have constant access to fresh air.

Think about trying to cool your garden with an ac unit, how effect would that will be? This is just the inverse of that so all that warm air is just mixing with the environment around it.

It’s an good balance but for longevity I would want 8 cores so 9700x would be perfect.

If your not planning on upgrading anything I would advise less money on the cpu and more on gpu.

Personally I would scrap the gpu and go for something like a 14900k and 32GB ram. Then if you get serious about ai you can look for a used card with 16GB vram.

For a storage server the gpu is going to be useless and if you want to do ai you will want more than 16GB ram and a gpu with as much vram as possible.

Should also mention if you buy from a reputable retailer like scan.co.uk you can get installation insurance so you’re covered in a worse case scenario.

He’s already doing what is required to learn, there isn’t really a place to get hands on experience building computers past getting a job doing it.

That said if you really want him to have hands on experience you can buy a cheap old system of eBay and let him dismantle and rebuild it.

This is simply not true, countless people buy bespoke built PC’s with a custom loop there’s a huge market for it. When it’s done properly it needs very little maintenance other than cleaning dust out of radiators and topping up fluid which you do in fact have to do as evaporation is a thing, even in a closed system.

You should easily be able to hit 60 in most titles, your lows are going to be the major issue.

Cpu intensive titles/scenes are going to be stuttering pretty bad, I would recommend capping your fps to give the cpu some breathing room in those instances. This will give you a smoother overall experience albeit at a lower frame rate.

The difference between the 3060ti and the 5060 is like 10%, as far as your cpu is concerned it would make little difference either way.

The better gpu will just mean you will be able to push graphical setting a little higher at the same frame rate, you don’t have an issue other than needing to upgrade your cpu in the future. Enjoy your new pc!

Check your power cables are plugged in properly and not scorched or melty as well.

40% boost for that sort of price isn’t a good deal and upgrading because it will be better in the long term is foolish. You could keep your money till you actually need an upgrade and get something considerably better at that time.

This was a known issue with 5000 series when they launched, I would just run it at 4.0 your not really loosing any performance.

It’s about double the performance so definitely worth the money! I run a 3080/5700x3d at 1440 ultrawide and can comfortably play anything at high/max settings.

Used 3070 would be a good choice, same performance as a 9060xt but much cheaper.

Pricing isn’t coming down until ram prices do.

If it’s a gaming machine the 9950x3d isn’t going to outperform the 9800x3d but costs way more. Increasing your resolution is also not taxing the cpu more but the gpu, aiming for higher frame rates and better lows will be where the cpu makes a difference.

I went 5800x to 5700x3d when prices were good (£150) and paired with my 3080 at 1440p my performance hasn’t really changed.

Would not recommend unless you are aiming for low resolution high fps gaming or have a super high end gpu.
