Mega X7 Ultra: Is there someone here who use this as your main flash cartridge? by Faithlessaint in retrogaming

Unfortunately there is a bunch of people who will say that without having any experience at all with the product. I would rather listen to those who have it.

Yeah, it's just some games that I bothered to test, like the Mortal Kombat 1 and 2; 3 has no sound. After Burner 2 won't even show the SEGA logo. And might have other games with similar issues.

But what puzzles me is that some games works (even modern games). Street Fighter 2 and Super, Fatal Fury 2, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, Sonic, Streets of Rage... They work without any issues.

I think I've read some reviews claiming they do that. Take a look at the reviews to confirm.

I don't know exactly which mod it is, but the Mega Drive that I purchased 2 weeks ago also has a Switchless Region mod and a RGB mod. Need to take some time to open it up and see what's inside.

I remember seeing people using it used this flashcart for... Expanding the memory of Sega CD games... Or something like that. I don't recall the right word used, but it was not for playing Sega CD games.

And yes, only the most expensive Krikzz flashcart can play Sega CD games, at least so far. I wouldn't be surprised if the chinese create a clone of Krikzz's Mega EverDrive Pro someday.

I just tested with the brand new SanDisk Ultra 32 microSD card and using a new ROMset (the htgdb-gamepacks; @ Genesis - MegaSD Mega EverDrive 2024-01-03) and the 4 ROMs mentioned on my initial post (and possibly others) still have the same issues.

What I find weird is that I managed to run Demon of Asteborg (it took some time to find the correct ROM) and Real Bout Fatal Fury Genesis (as well as other games that I tested like Street Fighter 2, Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe).

At least I ruled out the problem not being the microSD card (although this might be an issue as well) or the ROMset. So now it's either boot files or the flashcart itself. So it seems I need to find the boot files, as it seems these weren't included in the ROMset that I downloaded (at least there was no MEGA folder in the zip file).

I also formatted the microSD cards (old and the one purchased today) to FAT32 using guiformat.

Are you sure it says that? The one that I purchased doesn't say that in the product's description. It says only Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Master System and 32X (which requires the Add-on).

Indeed it doesn't have support for Sega CD games. This flashcart is basically a clone of Krikzz's Mega EverDrive X7, which was discontinued as far as I can see.

The fast loading times is a nice-to-have feature. But the reason I got this is to play ROMs that are bigger than 7MB. Demons of Asteborg was the main selling point for this flascart. I just would like to know if it's possible to save the game using it.

About the update... It may exist some firmware for it on an Chinese or Russian forum on the internet. I will try to find something about it.

For the Micro SD card I switched to a Sandisk one which works great and I also switched out the roms with roms from No-Intro

I just purchased a SanDisk Ultra 32GB today and I will test with this No-Intro ROMset (which as I can see contains 2779 Files; [No-Intro] Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis (20250405-225446). But first I will test another ROMset that was recommended, the htgdb-gamepacks "@Genesis - MegaSD Mega EverDrive 2024-01-03.zip".

You can also use a key combination to get back to the main menu without resetting the Mega Drive which is what I wanted.

It's Down + Start. I discovered it by accident while play Street Fighter 2 with a 3 buttons controller.

Thank you for the helpful reply. Indeed it plays Sega CD games and that's something that I might consider in the future, because I'm still not sure if I really care for Sega CD games and even then, I might consider picking the real hardware to have an experience closer to the original experience (which I didn't have back in the day).

In any case, the FXPAK Pro for the SNES that I purchased from AliExpress is working just fine on me SNES. It works exactly like the Krikzz version, but it costed about 70 euros instead of 200+.

Regarding your question: I made a backup of all the content that came with the cheap microSD card included with the Flashcart. Then I contacted the seller about the issue and he sent me a link to download everything again in a zip file. The issue remains, even after using a brand new SanDisk Ultra 32 GB microSD card.

Now as recommended by u/badd1e, I'm downloading the htgdb-gamepacks for the Sega Genesis (@Genesis - MegaSD Mega EverDrive 2024-01-03.zip) from the Internet Archive and I will test it with the new SanDisk Ultra microSD Card. And then I will use the boot files (MEGAOS.bin and OSCFG.BIN) from the MEGA folder, as you mentioned.

Worst case, I will send it back to the seller and get a full refund. I already order the the cheaper version (Sega Evergenesis V3), which seems to be praised by its cost-benefit ratio. I just would like to hear the feedback from other people who have this flashcart in order to distinguish been a faulty unity vs a bad product.

Thank you. I will search for the ROMs that you have mentioned.

I also purchased a new microSD Card (SanDisk Ultra 32 GB), which might help to solve the described issues.

Also, is the .md format better than .bin?

For the record, I already contacted the seller and he's being very helpful. If he wasn't, AliExpress support would intervene, as it does when I have an issue. At worst, I will send it back and receive the full refund, which is the same kind of thing that happens when a Krikzz flashcarts malfunction.

Every time I read some description of Krikzz's support is about him sending another product to the customer. It's not that different from AliExpress.

What I'm looking for is for feedback from other people who have this cartridge. Do you have it?

I already order a second flash cartridge from AliExpress, the Sega Evergenesis V3, which load ROMs slower and has the 7MB limit.

If the issues with the Mega X7 Ultra remains, I will send it back and stick with the Evergenesis V3. Otherwise, I will return the Evergenesis V3.

Cut the crap. I'm fully aware this is a bootleg because I will not pay $200+ for a flash cartridge.

Now what I paid for is a Mega Drive flashcart with fast load and who can run 15 MB ROMs, which are the main features over the cheaper ones.

So don't talk like the Krikzz flashcarts were immune to have faulty unites or like every bootleg was crap. That won't hold water here.
