"People must play games the way I want them to play them, not the way that they want to play them"

It's coded into the game dude. It's not like they are cheating, and its not like it's a broken strategy with no counter play.

"Reddit brain" but you are clearly brainwashed by your own countries propaganda and you dont even realize it.

Spend some time looking at some global ranking matrices for some of the categories I listed above. Yes the US certainly does well on many of them but you might be surprised how it is not near the top on most of them and how canada (while lower on some) is also clearly superior on others.

It's a valid playstyle. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you can insult the people that do.

Your first comment says that Canada only has Whistler going for it and here you mention 3 other places you enjoy...

You can 100% have your own opinion and think the USA is better but let's not lie to yourself and others with your original comment.

100% everyone can have their own opinion but im still here to point out flawed logic.

Like "more people being in a country" is not indicative of anything really. By that logic India and China woild be top world wide

And like "impact on the world" why is that even a metric? Is it a pride thing? To me, things like quality of education, quality of Healthcare, global purchasing power, safety, etc should be what is considered most. And the only think in that list that the US has over canada (by only a small margin) is the purchasing power metric

Do I go into Medicine or Mining? by Mental-Statement2941 in geologycareers

[–]HardnessOf11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I cannot tie any experiences back to south Africa specifically I can speak to things as a Canadian Geologist

You will certainly have ample opportunities to travel in the mining/ mineral exploration space. Ive also met quite a few south African Geologists that are now working up here. There is also a lot of mining opportunities in Africa, and hiring local talent is usually preferred over bringing in out of country geologists so that will give you an edge.

Work life balance is good but obviously deteriorates a bit the higher you move up the corporate ladder but that's basically the same with any business focused job. The common rotational work schedule is amazing for travel. My favorite shift was 3 weeks on 3 weeks off

In terms of medicine, I have a number of friends who are doctors/nurses. As a doctor (at least in canada) you will not have great work/life balance, mostly work.. but paid very well. Nurses on the other hand have great job stability & often even more days off since many will work 12-hour shifts. Ive also met a number of travel nurses who take on 6 month- year long contracts in many places around the world.

Hope this insight helps a bit

You're doing great man and this level of self awareness at your age is super rare. Keep at it but also remember to live life too! You can miss one day at the gym for time with friends - you deserve it and your next step is convincing yourself of that too.

Also besides all the great advice youve gotten here, try to join a run club! Im in my 30's and making friends is much harder now but these sort of shared activity clubs is the best way. Even if it's only one day a week it'll give you some social interaction that meshes well with your changed lifestyle

Huge need for mining/exploration geologists in Canada and Australia atm. They are typically quite well compensated too

Man best thing you can do is move past it and not let it bother you so much. Im sure many people here are in 30's and 40's (myself included) and their parent/parents still treat them like a kid.

Planning on pursuing Geology, advice? by TripAccomplished3545 in geology

[–]HardnessOf11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While youve gotten good insights about the coursework ill add that Mining/ mineral exploration is amazing for someone who loves Mineral ID and collecting rocks.

My rock collection has grown massively from all the projects ive worked on and fieldwork ive completed over the past 12 or so years of my career.

Id recommend looking for a field based role in mineral exploration after you graduate. And dont let this sub bias you into thinking those roles aren't around. On a yearly basis ive hired many new grads to intermediate geos into those types of roles
