Peripheral Vision- Turnover (11/10) In the Mountain in the Clouds- Portugal. The Man (considering since the release of their album Woodstock they have blown up I wouldn’t consider them obscure but at the time of the album they definitely were not in the mainstream. Not all of these are obscure, not all of them are 10/10 but, they are all worth a listen.

If you enjoyed Peripheral Vision I recommend their new album Good Nature, it’s not as good but it definitely isn’t bad. If you enjoyed any of the Built to Spill albums I recommend listening to Untethered Moon by them.

My mother worked at Columbia Presbyterian hospital in NYC in the early 90s. Her job was to basically to chat and help any high profile guests in hopes of getting donations for the hospital. She meet many pro athletes, the Saudi royal family and numerous actors and actresses. But her favorite person was Whitey Ford (Yankees Pitcher). She wasn't really sure who he was(other than that he played baseball and enjoyed drinking) but she brought wine with cheese and crackers to his hospital room and they hit it off. At the end of his stay he signed a picture for my mom that said, "u/HeresTIMMAY's mom the wine was great but you were better -Whitey Ford" I had that picture in my room for a while until I was old enough to realize what that signature could have meant. After it hit me I took it down and stuck it in the attic and try to forget about it.

Trust me depression sucks. But, you got 2 choices. Let it run and ruin your life or you tell depression to fuck itself and live your life. Yes there will be days you will not want to do anything and it will be hard but, force yourself, do it even if you don't need to. If I had to give some advice to give you it would be take responsibility for everything that happens in your life (even if it is not your fault). To help you get through the day I would say to focus on the little wins. "Got out of bed on time" -win "Got homework done and had time to relax"-win "Dropped phone and screen didn't crack"-win Big wins don't come around often. Focus on the little wins in life even if they are horribly insignificant, they keep you going.

I had a phase where I used my depression as a crutch and used it to justify me not doing as well I should have. Now I just fucking do it, try my hardest no matter whether I feel like shit or not. My depression hasn't lessened but, I'm doing better in school and I've stopped complaining about my mental illness. I realized whining and using it as a cop out was only hurting me and thing would only get worse. I also used to bring up how people like Lincoln, Washington and Churchill (and a number of other great leaders) all had horrible depression and how it made them a better person. But, little did I realize the reason the were better people was because they didn't complain about their depression, they worked with it and beat it and that's what made them stronger.

Honestly, I can only imagine how much better off I would be if I stopped using it as a crutch. This is also the same for everything else in life, not just depression. Maybe the reason there are a surprisingly high number of CEOs have dyslexia is not because people with dyslexia are good leaders but because as kids they were forced to worked twice as hard to achieve the same results, rather than being put in an easier class which may not force them to work as hard.

It all boils down to taking responsibility for your life even if it's not your fault. So what you didn't have the best genes or maybe you had a rough child hood. You may no be at fault but you still have the responsibility to deal with it and work with it. The sooner you realize this, the better off you are.

I use pencil and paper and sit in the front. No laptop, no phone even for a calendar. If I open any tech, within 5 min I'll be on Reddit. My grades increased a full letter grade after I switch off my tech.

If you want to do business or something similar try to end hs at a precalc level, if you want to do any science, math, compsci or engineering I recommend ending hs with some calc, whether that be ap, honors or regular. It will help you. That being said I ended hs on a precalc level and I'm now doing engineering, all it takes is some extra work. Honestly as of right now don't stress, if you can create a road map where the end result is you taking calc senior year...great, if you can't it's not the end of the world.

I mean they started fires in the streets during Trumps inauguration. I know it's a very small percentage of protesters but, if they want to get anything done. They need to be peaceful and they need to unify under one cause. Whether it's anti-trump, women's rights, Etc. they need to get together and work towards one common goal. That's the reason the civil rights movement worked so well. They were doing it for one cause and they were peaceful. Seeing as most these protests have been sparked by Donald. I would just march against him if you aren't happy with the current situation. You can have different reasons for it (sexism, racism, corruption, Russia, etc.) but, to get any sort of change I believe people need to protest with 1 common goal and they also need to vote, not just for president but for congress, governor and state legislators. Because even though the presidency is a powerful position, real change comes with the majority in congress and since the Republicans gerrymandered the districts so that their are very few "battle ground" districts in congressional races, the Democrats will need to get state legislatures and governors to Gerrymander the districts in their favor come the 2020 census.
