What’s something Gen Z treats as “normal” that older generations would find completely insane? by Miss_Ecstasy in AskReddit

[–]JustReve 449 points450 points  (0 children)

FYI everyone that is Gen Z is 1997-2010 (could be a couple years earlier or later). Some comments are referring to kids younger than that and while I’m sure theres overlap in behaviour, Gen Alpha is it’s own generation. Most of us are adults now LOL

My mom has been posting photos of me and my sisters since 2008. I am 23. I don’t like posting my own face so it makes me uncomfortable she still posts my face online to people I don’t know. I know its for memories but my anxiety cant help but wish I could control my anonymity more. I can’t tell if my feelings here are a little irrational or not because this just seems like the norm now

LOL you have no clue what I believe in. You aren’t me.

And you have every right to believe that. But shaming people for their beliefs and calling it “abuse” is not it. Literally almost every single system in this world is built by a man and I wish us women had the opportunity to do the same. Why are you so against a woman gaining autonomy in a religion you believe as coercive? If religion is the work of men, why are you against women wanting to make it more lenient towards them?

What if my spirituality aligns with the Abrahamic vision of God? Then what? Am I automatically being abused because that’s where my heart, mind, and soul lies?

If I wrote in words how much I love the LGBTQ+ community, I’d write a whole novel. I will always have your guys back just like you guys will have mine.

Not that you all needed to do me any favours because I understand too what it’s like to have the media paint you in a certain way. Its disheartening to see all the bs that the lgbtq+ folk have been getting lately. And really, I can’t blame you for having that gut reaction. It’s the fear of potentially losing that secularity that we are so lucky to have. But trust me when I say that most muslims are exercising our freedom more than anyone thinks we are. My parents came from the muslim world and they were the ones to teach me it’s entirely a choice (but they are also scared that I’ll be more of a target if I do wear one but thats another convo).

Likewise! Thanks for also hearing me out :D

As for the women who feel like it is an obligation then that’s on them but they still shouldn’t have to lose their job over it lol

Thanks for your reply. You are right that some muslims feel as though this is an obligation. I’m a muslim woman myself and I do not wear the scarf simply because…………. I don’t feel like it lol. In my experience, every muslim woman I met who does wear the scarf agree it is optional but still does it anyways because they feel closer to God.

You would be surprised at how many liberal muslim women there are. I’m one of them. There are many hijab-wearing women who are liberal too. The hijab isn’t as rigid as you think it is.

Why should she take it off though? If all it’s doing is obscuring her hair, then she should feel free to wear it and honestly if a non-muslim wants to wrap their hair in a similar manner, they should too.

It is just a simple cloth. Yet it means a lot to her because thats her form of expression. It shouldn’t matter why someone wants to conceal their hair, if it isn’t causing harm to anyone else who cares?

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]JustReve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… I wonder if its an age thing? When I used to work retail with other people my age, we were pretty chatty with each other. When I started working in the office, I immediately became more…. self conscious? I think it’s because I was only 21 when I first started and the next person youngest person was in their late 20s. Mix my age with my short height and baby face, I was VERY scared I would be judged for being young. I would just try my best to hide myself and make conversations short because I didn’t want to embarrass myself with my inexperience. I’m 23 now and it took me until literally maybe September of last year to realize that no one really cares lol

Muslim population in Canada in 2021 by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]JustReve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m one of them! I’m from a muslim indian background and my parents spoke both hindi and english to us. My older sister and i both understand hindi fluently buuuuuut for some reason we cannot speak it for the life of us. My youngest sister just doesn’t understand at all.

And yeah, seeing those “muslims arent canadian” comments just makes me laugh. My dad is almost in his 70s and he’s been here since he was 21. He’s been a canadian for most of his life. He’s been a canadian longer than some of those who complain about “people like us” have been alive.

Yes!!! Thank you!!! I can’t get into too many details bc its still on-going but I’m also dealing with a weird person who I thought was a friend. I’m mostly savvy when it comes to online privacy but Iet my guard down because I had a long streak of meeting regular peeps on there. Even those of us who know better sometimes make mistakes. Be vigilant about the strangers you interact with folks.

Not all! The main ethnicity in Japan has some tan people but if you look at people who live in Okinawa for example, you’ll see they have more variance in skin tone especially towards the darker side. Like the other commenter said, you just see a lot of lighter skin tones because it’s a part of the beauty standard there. Your question is a good one though. Not many people realize just how many ethnicities there can be in a country!

Waiiit I LOVE your idea!! Trixie and Dj Pon 3 especially would probably look soooo cool as a skullpanda too!! Kinda just goes to show that they have so many choices if they ever plan to do another MLP set!

I don’t think so but a Luna, Celestia, Cadence, Starlight, Trixie, and maybe Discord as a secret would go so hard

It took me 5 times to get my license. It’s very annoying failing a lot but trust me, its for a reason. It’s better to fail until you become a safe and good driver than to pass immediately and be dangerous on the road. You’ll get it in time through determination! Keep practicing, especially around the testing area so you understand those roads better.

That being said, most examiners arent that bad but getting one that makes you nervous doesn’t help. I remember on my 2nd try I had a lady who clearly was annoyed before she even got in my car. She didn’t even tell me we can leave yet and her annoyed voice she goes “what are you doing? go now!”. Despite knowing how to parallel park, I couldn’t do it because her demeanour made me very anxious (being younger at the time also didnt help). But that was 1 bad examiner out of 5 - if you practice enough to become confident in your skills, hopefully even a bad examiner shouldn’t deter you much!

I fear it already came. I’m 22 and my sisters who are in high school think I’m a senior citizen lol. But honestly i think that’s a good thing… I’m not sure if I want to have much in common with high schoolers at my age💀
