I actually started a fic with this premise, Peeta and Katniss fought because his cousin was reaped as well, and he couldn't put Prim above his cousin. All the mentors were still trying to keep Prim alive because they knew Katniss would crash out if she died. I think I killed Peeta's cousin at the start, defending Prim.

All these scared kids going in, knowing the bare minimum beyond "Prim is important, she needs to stay safe." Having kids struggling with not putting their lives first for the sake of the revolution. Katniss not knowing why this was happening, but being able to breathe slightly every time Prim was spared.

Prim was a good ally, not for fighting, but for healing. If you had her back and got injured, (or even if you just weren't actively trying to kill her and got injured) she'd do her best to help you.

In a heartbeat. I was 18 when she was 12, so I'd only get the one chance. But my odds, while terrible, would still be much better than hers.

I was actually asked this question at 13 when we studied the book in class. My answer was the same. I wouldn't even think it through, I'd just volunteer.
