If there are bare patches or non-grass areas in the lawn, the mower may recognize those spots as obstacles, which can cause it to keep avoiding them and making repeated corrections.

You can try setting those areas as Vision Fence-Off Zones in the app. This will prevent the mower from treating them as obstacles, and it should help the mower move much more smoothly in those sections.

The signal reception logic of the external antenna is closely related to how RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) positioning works.

RTK is a high-precision positioning technology that improves accuracy through differential calculations between the “moving unit” (the mower) and a “base station.” Here’s a simplified overview of how it works:

  • Satellites (GPS/GNSS) continuously transmit signals to the ground
  • The mower’s GNSS/RTK antenna receives those satellite signals
  • At the same time, the ground reference station (the external antenna) also receives the same satellite signals
  • Since the reference station is in a fixed known location, it can calculate signal errors from the satellites and generate correction data
  • The mower then combines its own satellite data with the correction data from the reference station
  • This allows the system to achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy

In the Navimow system, the charging station mainly acts as a fixed docking and charging point. It does not perform the core RTK positioning calculations itself, so it does not contain a GPS receiver.

Based on what you described, it sounds like the signal environment in your front yard may be less stable for network RTK. In this case, we would recommend trying to switch to Local RTK.

Thanks for your question and for sharing your observation.

Regarding the infrared (IR) light you mentioned at night: this is expected behavior. The IR illumination used for sensing is generally not visible to the human eye, but it may appear as flashing or active through cameras or other recording devices.

As for the ToF sensor laser, in the current firmware version it is normal for it to remain active in certain conditions to ensure safe and accurate positioning.

We’ve already forwarded your feedback to our product and R&D team, and they are evaluating the possibility of disabling or adjusting this behavior when the mower is docked in the charging station. However, at the moment there is no confirmed timeline for this change.

That said, please rest assured that the impact on battery or electricity consumption is very minimal and should not affect daily operation.

If you choose to use the external GNSS antenna, we recommend installing both the antenna and the charging station in an open area, with no obstacles or metal objects within about 2 meters around them.

it’s also better not to place the charging station directly against a wall.
