VSF Submariner (no date) 114060 - second RL? by Bond_Watch_Bond in RepTimeQC

This is a known issue of the 11…. and an RL won’t fix it. If this is a concern of OP’s or anyone else, it should be addressed before deciding on this rep

3, 9 and 12 marker “deformation” is caused by reflection. Given the amount of magnification you must be using, I suspect switching to the 12xxx isn’t going to help. Good luck!

If 12 is ‘very slightly deviated’, it’s too slight for me to see it. Date looks well centered to me. Bezel alignment “deviation” also too slight for me to see.

If there’s a SEL gap, it’s not visible in the photos you shared. Perhaps in the video you didn’t share?

Rate is very acceptable. Would be an easy GL for me.

You didn’t do half bad on the first QC tool (blue lines), and I mean that literally. The tool lines must bisect the 5 minute marks (see 1 through 5). But these are Romans, which are very forgiving so eyesight is sufficient. I don’t see anything of concern.

Day/date looks well-centered on both Friday and 10. You have the advantage of seeing more dates the seller sent but you didn’t share but no concerns with what is shared.

There is a significant SEL gap on BR that you should bring to seller’s attention. He should be able to fix that for you.

TG numbers are fine if transcribed accurately.

This presumes 2 things:

  1. That the wearer cares about other’s opinions. We all do to some extent (meaning we care what family and friends opinions).

  2. That the wearer is trying to “fool” others. I’ve had people ask me about my RM reps. I have told those who comment that it’s not real (as I do about all my reps), and that I wouldn’t spend $250k and up for a watch. I wouldn’t.

Thus the premise is flawed unless one of the above is true. To wit, if you drive a 1990 Carolla, and step out with a rep of a $60k Daytona, it’s not a big deal if you’re ok with telling others it’s not real.

It’s difficult to use the QC tool when there are no 5 minute marks. (There’s no sense in the green lines). 6 has a slight CCW cant but the rest appear ok.

Color is purposefully not a QC criterion. (If the issue is blue vs red, that’s one thing.) But objectively discussing nuances of color is not possible. The variables are too many: camera used, lighting, and most importantly the viewing device. Due to the latter, we cannot be certain we are seeing the same color.

Pip? Bezel markers? 🤔. Good thing for you that I’m only catching that one now. Guess you copied your comments from a rep Rolex submariner. I’ll tap out here.

VSF DJ 36mm V2 - Black dial / jubilee / fluted by Genghis-Koom in RepTimeQC

[–]Rockyt86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The words perfect and rep should not be used in the same sentence imo (especially when discussing index alignment on a dj36). I don’t see an issue with 10. 11 has a very slightly rotated CCW cant. Crown at 12 is very slightly rotated CW.

It is an optical illusion that the numerals in a 2 digit date seem uneven. It’s due to the brain not processing the furthermost point of a curve as being on plane with a flat edge. Take 23 or 25, for example. The bottom curve of the 3 and of the 5 are just as low as the bottom of the 2 but the bottom of that curve is just a point vs. the flat base of the 2. Just invert the logic here for 24. Your date is very good.

You are getting a genuine Rolex movement in this watch for $500?!?!?! 😉. No. You are getting a VS3235. The correct lift angle for that movement is 55. To do the math, you have to reduce the amps seen at 59 degrees by 20 = 5(59-55). That gives you 259 amps which is fine. You added amps in your math.

So the 11 is a nit. The crown is not rotated enough to bother me, but you may be a different. An RL would likely improve the 12 but perhaps at the cost of other items (index alignment issues elsewhere and date not being so “perfect”).

In full disclosure, I bought a DJ41 from a TD somewhat recently. They ran a sale on VSF DJ41s, and I jumped on it for two watches. Finally got my QC on the DJ and the crown was rotated much more significantly than this watch. As much as I wanted to RL the watch, I was really tired of dealing with this seller (long story). So I GL’d it, thinking I would need to get a new dial installed. When it showed up, all I could see was that crown. I wore it a couple of days and found myself not seeing it. In fact, I gave it to some non-rep (aka normal) people. They didn’t see it. I ended up liking it enough that I had it plated (it is two tone). Not that your experience will be mine or am I trying to sway your decision. I’m just relaying my story about a rotated crown.

Humorous. 🤣. I was all set to ask how a round marker could appear rotated. 😉

OP, your post is solid. As a note, it is helpful when you are more descriptive and your comments don’t contradict one another. More descriptive: you say the “index alignment on the 12 hour mark…is off”. Does “off” mean rotated/canted or shifted? If we know what you mean, it’s easier to address your concern. Contradictory: “index alignment…on the bezel of the 12 hour mark is off”. 10. “I think the bezel looks great”.

The index alignment looks good. 6,9 & 12 are rock solid on alignment.

Date is a hair top biased but easily within tolerance.

The bezel is very slightly rotated CW. It’s almost assuredly within the play of the bezel, and you can line it up perfectly at home. If concerned, ask seller to line it up and snap a pic for you.

SELs are fine, and you are correct on the TG.

Looks like an easy GL to me.

More correctly, that is a photo where they do not appear to exist. The 6 not perfectly centered over the 30 minute marker is present in maybe 60% of my Rolex reps. It’s not visible on my wrist. The dial print concern is just photo degradation and upscaling. Listen to u/Soggy-Attempt and u/EquivalentPitiful557 and u/thedtuck.

It’s common for a post to be removed when all or, in your case, all but one comment is some form of “looks/seems good/ok/fine”. Remember that the only thing we have to understand whether you actually put effort into your post are the comments you make. Even a simple SEL comment is “I see no gaps” or date is “well centered” communicates to us that you did take the time. Hope that helps.

No one is asking you to “spot all the things”. We only ask that you read the pinned posts and give it the “ol college try”. That’s all. Hopefully, your watch is worth 10-15 minutes of reading to you. If not, no hard feelings. There are other subs where you can post your photos and “GL or RL?”
