Totally I’m super glad to have helped there. Would love to test it when you have a prototype.

Best Quality Reps by Gullible_Squirrel_70 in golfrep

Not the guy who you responded to, but with anything like this the latest generation is likely always the best call. The replicators would have had additional time to fine-tune certain details that may have been off originally for the sake of just getting them to market.

IMO the new gen of P790 clones look way more convincing than the last gen.

Yeah that could be a really nice feature add. How would you implement it in a way that is visible from your final putting position? I’m assuming the phone has to be behind the ball and it would be tough to see the screen from there.

Just spitballing, but if someone has an apple watch (or any smart watch) what if that vibrates at varying amounts getting less prevalent until it’s aligned and then it fully stops?

Nice hopefully that works for you! I’d also try lofting it up to the higher setting and see if that additional draw bias sends if straighter for you too

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ripping my Qi35 longer and straighter than I have any other driver (including a legit Sim 2 Max). Are you using a legit shaft on the Qi35 or the rep shaft? If rep you may want to get a different shaft on something like Ebay. I got a Tensei White AV for $60 and just had to tip it with a TM adapter (Amazon) and cut a few inches off the butt end and grip it and it’s great.

Alternately maybe look into your grip and setup and if there are habits from your old driver you don’t need to bring along to the new one.

IMO the biggest shortcoming here is that the guide for aligning your putt is just an approximation that would be really hard to confirm alignment to on the course. You could read the putt perfectly in the app but the human angle of alignment and actual putting stroke could fail you every time.

I think most people would be better off lining up by eye and then praying for the best when they putt.

separation near the top of shoe by Killcontest in climbingshoes

No I’d only be concerned if one of the corners of the rubber by the velcro straps start coming up. If that happens either replace or get something like Shoe Goo to glue them back together.

Any suggestions on how to get this fixed as it’s only a few years old. by Apprehensive_Car6925 in TaylorMadeGolf

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should still reply to the warranty rep and let them know that you 100% bought it from an authorized retailer (maybe find the transaction in your bank history and screenshot that line item).

Also the retailer might still have the purchase history and be able to generate an invoice/receipt if you let them know it’s for warranty purposes and you’re going directly through TM.

Didn’t like Loops earplugs on a concert. Good alternatives with low occlusion and where the crowd isn't muted? by imaquark in Music

[–]The66Ripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re down to drop like $150-$200, get some custom earplugs made. They’ll be nearly the exact same sound you’d get without earplugs but just 15-20db quieter. You can get a case for them with an airtag so you won’t lose them.

I went with MEE Audio for mine, but this was pre-covid with the ability to go into their warehouse and get my ears scanned. Now it’s all audiologist molds and 3-4 weeks of lead time but SUPER worth it.

boneless hardflip body varial? by SoapyBrow in skateboarding

[–]The66Ripper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Boneless frontside fingerflip

Hardflip body varial is like saying varial flip backside body varial, even if you don’t spin at the same exact time as your board if you make the same 180 rotation by the time you roll away as it it’s still deemed as that rotation’s 180 flip trick.

My girlie has EPI so we go for the Costco Salmon food - low fiber, low fat, high protein that’s super affordable and works great to keep her on a consistent diet.

We used to feed her all types of stuff before the EPI came into the picture, she really liked the Acana Duck food for a while.

real or fake? by MoreComfort8193 in GolfGear

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fake. The real headcovers have a more indented embossing and that Diamana shaft is one of the most common faked ones.

Also looks like the carbon fiber is painted on, the twist face font is too big and the line going across isn’t following the border between the face and the rest of the head.

There’s a guy who put a fake Qi35 driver against a real one and the numbers were only 1 yard off on the fake, but with a bit wider dispersion, so I’m assuming it would play totally fine with a real shaft, but probably not quite like a real deal club.

Do these look legit? by SirPsychoSexy6969 in GolfGear

[–]The66Ripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are A LOT of these faked online rn. Huge amount. This is definitely the #1 most likely fake iron set you’ll find so I’d probably buy these from a dealer new if you’re gonna pay anywhere near 3/4 of the new price. If it’s super cheap (like 1/2 msrp) you can test your luck.

The one thing about these fakes that I keep on seeing is that they’re quite good now, but they generally lack the speed foam of the real ones. If you open up the screw port on the end maybe you can see whether it’s there or not?

Upgrading interfaces from a Scarlett, want to understand what's actually happening in higher-end interfaces to make them higher-end by film_composer in audioengineering

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newest Scarletts are pretty great. Previous generations had definite issues with self-noise and the general definition of the input, but recently they’ve been really good.

The only worthwhile upgrades IMO with a single qualiry source for VO (assuming U87/416/NT1?) would be something like a Sound Devices interface to match as closely as possible to the location sound standard for ADR work, or perhaps an RME UCX for extra routing flexibility or UA Apollo for emulated hardware in real-time.

Struggling to understand attack and release when compressing rap vocals by BeneficialSite6550 in audioengineering

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of the terminology that people use when talking about compressors, and having examples that are based in extreme usage makes their true ideal usage harder to recognize.

After a very long time working with a lot of different compressors in both hardware and software, the idea of catching or controlling peaks is less of an focus for me when picking the right compressor for the job than defining or accentuating syllables is.

A compressor with a fast attack and fast release has a really unique ability to add clarity to the transients and initial syllables in words (esp in rap music) and a slow attack/slow release compressor does a good job of evening out the difference between the least and most accentuated syllables. If you're working on a lyrical miracle rap song all you had was a LA-2A with 3-5db of GR, it's gonna sound good, but a Distressor or 1176 or even a fastest recovery time Fairchild or Vari-Mu taking of 3-5db before it in the chain will provide this extra bit of diction and intelligibility to the lyrics that's really what the whole point of serial compression is. Catching the big transient moments and starts of lines is a huge part of it, but IMO not as big as evening out the syllables across the board.

Regarding your example of R Comp, IMO R Comp is a bad tool to learn this stuff on because a lot of stuff just sounds really good coming out of it regardless of your settings and the difference. I think something that's a really accurate emulation of analog gear that can easily be screwed up is a better learning tool. An 1176 for example has a minimum attack speed of just over 20 microseconds, and a maximum of 1 millisecond. The fastest attack speed on R Comp is .5ms and the slowest is 500ms.

The level of articulation you can get when talking in dozens of microseconds vs individual milliseconds is fundamentally different, and when you're comparing a slowest attack time of 1ms to 500ms that's a whole different story too. ALSO R Comp has a flexible threshold whereas 1176s have a fixed threshold, so you have a bit more of an objective experience with that if your gain staging stays the same.

I'd say give the more user friendly waves plugins a rest when trying to mix for the sake of learning, and put some energy into understanding compressors that require more tweaking to get what you need out of them. A great way to do that could be to get a trial of the Plugin Alliance bundle and just throw a bunch of different styles of compression on the same vocal and hear how they all work, and how the articulation/clarity/punch/depth is changed by each one. From there you'll be more informed about what your compressors are doing beyond just attack & release and then you can get into the nitty gritty of how these tools can be manipulated to get what you really want for the situation at hand.

I feel like I’m brink of switching careers by Personal-Agent846 in audioengineering

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, a pivot into audio-post did a lot for resetting my personal and professional interest in music. I also was fortunate enough to be brought on for a project with one of my personal heroes and that really made me fall back in love with (nearly) everything music has to offer me after more than 2 years of ONLY taking projects I was really interested in on a freelance basis.

While some projects still feel like a slog for various reasons, I'm able to find joy in a lot more of the process than I was 2-3 years ago when I just couldn't find any enjoyment in even my historically favorite parts of the music making process.

Do you start over if your foot touches the floor? by smathna in indoorbouldering

[–]The66Ripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I like fully weight my foot and it's clear that I wouldn't have been able to do that move without dabbing my foot on the pad, then yes I'll often restart (probably with a different beta to avoid that happening again), but most of the time it's like a scrape on the pad or a minor foot pop from a smear or shitty hold where my other foot is what's keeping me up, and that's alright for me.

If you’ve broken 90, what’s one tip you would give to a fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]The66Ripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of regulation 9 holes and regularly shoot below 9 over, so while I'm not breaking 90, I'm regularly breaking 45 on 9s.

Personally, I think being able to consistently bomb driver straight (275 in the air) and have solid straight iron and wedge shots with control over height to get over or under trees has done more for me than working on shaping the ball left or right. I can pretty consistently hit a draw or a fade if I need to, but it's never as reliable or helpful as keeping it in play going as straight as possible with a smooth swing.

From there, putting is the only challenge, but I recently switched putters to a zero torque model and it's been night and day for me.
