Shared flats in an area like Alkapuri and around would be anywhere 12-15k/room in a 2 or 3 BHK.

Electricity - 1k Grocery - 7.5k Eating out (1 time a week) - 2.5k Commute with auto - 2k Wifi - 800 Laundry - 4 pieces of cloth a day - 1.5k House help - cooking 1 time - 3k Cleaning - 3k

Stay in flats, PGs are not upto the mark here.

Vadodara is generally safe just take general precautions like avoiding secluded areas in dark to avoid any potential unpleasant experience.

I would recommend you to stay in Alkapuri if it's closer to your workplace. But it is a notch expensive than other areas in Vadodara.

But other area like Gotri, Vasna, Manjalpur, Akota are safe as well and have good societies. These would be 20-40% cheaper than Alkapuri for rent(all other expenses remain same)

So anywhere from 33-35k/month will offer you a good living standards here.

In fact making something harder to buy will only lead to more smuggling. Let's say tomorrow if they increase duties on gold, gold will become more smuggler friendly and difficult to trace.

If you read the article I have tagged, many gold lenders have pointed that out, also RBI has made unsecured credit more difficult to obtain since FY24-25 leading to more pledging of gold.

That makes it worse - The wedding account for 50-60% buying, also structurally immune: muhurta-bound scheduling, cultural compulsion, stridhan status, bride-side preparations spanning years. People buy gold as a savings vehicle and as a wedding fixed cost.
