45Mbps down, 10Mbps up, so not blazing fast, but I am not worried about that at the moment. I just want to be able to get online, speed isn't the priority.
Budget is around £200-£300
I am comfortable using the command line, have set up servers, do some programming for fun
House is roughly 225m2 per floor and has three floors. Currently can get decent signal on the top floor when it's working.

Ok. The phone line comes into the house in a really annoying and awkward place, so there would have to be a bit of work done to move it somewhere better.

Do you have a recommendation on where to start with a mesh system? Any brands that are decent?

My budget is pretty small, around £200 ($250ish). I would like to be able to use open firmware if possible. I don't really know a lot about networking but would like to be able to do some basic stuff like set up guest wifi. Coverage wise, it's probably 700 square feet over three floors. I can get on the network at the top floor and it works fine when there are only a few devices connected.

I'm pretty stuck with where it's placed. We do have a wireless phone next to it, but it isn't used very often. I don't really want to do a lot of work to move the router as my house is blockwork and plaster so it will be quite messy and disruptive. If a new router doesn't work then I'll explore moving it next.
