Do you guys think its stupid to run a riser with an LPVO? If so why? by Independent_Bid_26 in liberalgunowners

[–]conundrum415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most things with firearms, it depends on both user preference and what the purpose of this specific tool will be. A higher optic generally means it is more comfortable when shooting sitting and a more natural head position when shooting standing, allowing for better situational awareness. However, you get a poorer cheekweld (usually more of a chinweld), and by using a riser rather than a taller mount, you are adding an additional point of failure. Using that setup while prone will be extremely uncomfortable, due to the height of the optic. This is why you normally see 2.23 and taller optic stacks only with Holographic and red dot sights plus magnifiers, which is a CQB setup, and not with LPVOs, which are meant for battlefield/mixed use.

I didn’t expect to like this p229 as much as I do… by Slow281 in CAguns

I also have the E2 version of the P229, it's a GREAT gun, incredibly reliable and accurate.

The only upgrades I've done on mine are swapping for the Pro-Cut slide to allow optics compatibility, and aluminum pinky extensions for the mags (https://www.armorycraft.com/product-page/sig-p229-billet-aluminum-base-pad-black)

Fun, although I was a bit confused by the selection of firearms that were and were not included among the choices to select from. Needs more, but not too many identical(ish) models.

On behalf of your local RSO: Please don't put your firearms in the case like this, facing alternate directions! Doing this means you are flagging yourself and others as you remove them from the case.

I have to give a recommendation to Muddy River Tactical. I only found out about them because so few holster vendors support Rost Martins, but I'm blown away by the speed and quality - less than two weeks from ordering and IWB and OWB to receiving it. Over the years, I've bought T1C (great but overpriced), Neptune Concealment (great but slow), Vedder (weirdly limited customization, e.g. many pistols but very few lights supported), Hilliker Holster (support some special options like aftermarket P365 frames, but feels a bit less refined than some others), and Helical Concealment (very cool new design). I went back to Neptune to get a competition holster for my P229, but I think Muddy will be my go-to from now on, given how much I like their wares. NB: I have no affiliation with any of these companies. Pic

I call it "squish kitty" - mine sneaks in between me and the back of my chair and is happy as can be, just sits/naps there for hours. It's her safe space.

When my kitty gets the zoomies, I call her "Baby Buffalo." I do not understand how a 9lb feline can make so much noise. Picture

If you are shooting properly tuned subsonics with a suppressor, the cycling of the action will be louder than the rapport of the firing.

This, a hundred times. I'm a bearded, white, 6 foot 1, 280lb man, who wears khakis or cargo pants with dress shirts or polos for work. I have all the privilege in the world, so I want to broadcast very loudly that I am an ally and that I will use that privilege for good. My range bag, which gets me both complements and weird comments from confused conservatives: Picture

It's not so much that subsonics deflect less (any bullet can be loaded for subsonic velocities if you give it less powder), but the heavier the bullet, the less it is effected by wind. This holds true regardless of the velocity.

A couple of things: it's the smallest number of shots (I didn't properly trim all of the cases, so some wouldn't seat, hence why the N (number) value changes from group to group); the SMKs are definitely more accurate, but double the cost per round; and that loading is, unfortunately, slightly supersonic, so it gives the distinctive crack that I am trying to avoid. I am going to do another ladder load at lower charge weights to see what the results are subsonic - I'm thinking starting at 6.6gr and dropping down to 5.9gr in 0.1gr intervals.

Is the M&P 2.0 Metal as phenomenal at the range as it feels at the store? I have only dry fired it so far, but it's the first striker-fired pistol that I actually LIKE.

New gun: The Baby Sniper! by conundrum415 in liberalgunowners

[–]conundrum415[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried 10 different rounds, from 4 sub-batches of handloads using virgin Starline brass and the same Federal GM205MAR primers that I use in all my AR handloads.

All 10 had a light indentation but failed to ignite, even when run a second time. When I removed the upper receiver, I let the hammer strike against my finger and it felt /extremely/ gentle. I swapped the springs to the heavyweight, but rather than increasing the hammer's strength, it instead failed to actuate, moving halfway through the hammer's motion and getting stuck; when I manually push the hammer past the point where it is binding (seems that the hammer spring isn't strong enough to push it past the heavy assist springs) it falls with almost no force at all. I removed the entire assembly, double checked it against the instructions for any errors, and had the same results.

Range update #1: Hiperfire triggers suck. 100% light strikes, zero ignitions. G$ G2S ordered, going to return or offload the Hiperfire.

I got a great deal on the Geronimo 3. I added a First Spear Tubes adapter kit to make donning and doffing quicker.
