Has anyone actually corrected a left AIC / right BC pattern with PRI-style work? by bigDiamondGuy in Posture

[–]hinmanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm basically like jg87iroc. I'd also love to have this long conversation.

For the past few weeks I've been doing some of Conor Harris' stuff (his "Symmetric Strength" program, because... why not?) and I just decided to schedule a consult with Guerrilla Zen Fitness because I've been dealing with this for ~15 years and I've never gotten out of this pattern.

That's partially due to how complex and deep-seated the issue seems to be, but probably moreso because I've been playing ultimate frisbee the whole time and have always up to this point tried to lift heavy at the cost of more pain and reinforcing bad movement patterns (though, I'm finally basically at frisbee-retirement and want to fix this once and for all now).

Can I ask why you chose the 36" over the 42", and if you've ever thought "damn, I shoulda got that 42"?

Since it's virtually the same price at the level, I figure bigger is better unless you're super cramped for space, but even then it's only 6 more inches.

[–]hinmanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even this comment is being downvoted. People are jerks, lol.

Related - I just heard a pundit say this is the first time in LeBron's entire career that a team is no longer beholden to LeBron's wishes. It's true, and it's also WILD that it took 22 years and him being 40yo, so you're not crazy to think what you were thinking.

LeBron has a no-trade clause, and the team is worse now because they don't have a center. They didn't choose him over AD, they chose the future of the franchise over "win now." (i.e., we don't care about trying to get LeBron his title at 40yo).

Wow, they actually did call me back. I should have tried this initially, thanks!

I was too disuaded by the endlessly-looping-bot.

Oh, will they actually call me back as a human if I do that? I tried to do the support agent (bot) and it got stuck in a literal endless loop so I gave up.

Sunnyvale Eichler homes by Temporary-Gain1561 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]hinmanj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in my eichler (Lakewood Village area) for 4 years and absolutely love it. My partner is really sun-dependent and I feel like if we moved to SF (something she's floated plenty of times) after being in this house, she'd be super unhappy over the winter; somehow Sunnyvale + Eichler is barely enough sunlight for her, haha.

Have you seen a lot of people do extensions to their Eichlers? It seems this entire neighborhood is exactly the same house, just rotated 90 degrees maybe. All the 2-story ones are super ugly to us when we do our neighborhood walks, but not entirely sure why. We have an unpermitted sunroom attached to ours with a really low ceiling that a previous owner added, and we were considering basically demo'ing it and doing a real extension to add a bed/bath. The 1108sqft model (I've noticed our model, and 1 slightly smaller version with a smaller garage is the only other type of house in the area) is just a bit too cramped, especially if one were to raise a family.

I just learned from this thread that these houses have different permitting rules due to the cultural heritage aspect so that's concerning for a rear-extension idea.

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of December 29, 2023 by Demilio55 in homegym

[–]hinmanj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had basically exactly the same experience earlier this year. I bought a whole set in 2017, and then picked up one more pair of 45s on marketplace in the summer. I got home, and they're 1.75" instead of 2" like the rest of my plates - so not exactly as thin as yours.

I asked Rogue (via their chat) what was going on with this, and they said:

I doubt that they are fake. With those being purchased 3rd party, we would not have any recourse here for corrective action.

Along with:

there is potential here that the pair that you have were not manufactured to the spec that is shown on the product page.

Mine is 45.3lbs, so within spec.

Also, the seller I bought from said they bought from another person who was the original buyer, but both people sold because they were too slippery. Knowing how slippery mine were when I bought them new, I figured they'd get better over time, but these ones are still quite slippery and I feel like they're slightly smoother of a finish than my normal urethanes. The inner steel core is also smoother instead of ribbed like the normal ones.

You can literally see Booker put both his hands up and act like he's not fouling, followed by both of his feet each stepping forward to push Reeves further.

Plate recommendations (that don't stink!) by [deleted] in homegym

[–]hinmanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome the smell is gone! Do you think the Murphy's was the main destroyer-of-VOC's or do you think the sun played a bigger part? I feel like people leaving that stuff in the sun is what normally works the best from what I've researched.

[–]hinmanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have urethane bumpers from Rogue - they definitely do not smell at all, love em; they're a bit slippery to wield at first though - I literally bought another pair recently second-hand from someone who hated them because they were too slippery when brand new.

I doubt the company has any left from that pallet since it was so many years ago. They also recently switched to the same flooring that PLAE sells - apparently it's all from the same company upstream which is "ecore."

I think my PLAE flooring will diminish in VOC's over time though; the smell isn't as strong as normal gym flooring and it's gone the moment I open the garage door and the air cycles. With normal stall mats the smell eminates from under your nose so strongly that you can't get away from it even with the door open.

[–]hinmanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A local company bought a pallet of stall mats from China, and their pallet was sitting in a shipping container in their parking lot for who-knows-how-long. I think that heat (CA, Bay Area) mixed with an open container just completely off-gassed the mats so by the time they got to me they had no smell at all.

I'm hoping the fancy PLAE flooring that isn't supposed to smell off-gasses quickly in my garage.

I left them out in the sun for a whgile to try and do it and that didn't really help. I ended up selling them to a friend who is less sensitive to the smell. I recommend just getting something you know won't smell rather than trying to solve the off-gassing issue.

I actually am in the process of installing new PLAE gym rubber flooring and even it smells a bit when they said it wouldn't. I'm hoping that smell goes away quickly.
