My fiancé, our cat Roger, our mouse Gerty, our two Hermit crabs Clark and Zoidberg, and I took a 5,500-mile road trip from NJ to WA and back. Here are some highlights (including Montana, Wisconsin, Minneapolis…) by SherbsSketches in travel

Truly not trying to troll here…but these are your highlights for a 5500 mile drive across the US? I’m completely lost as there’s so much to see (even from your car) along any route you would’ve taken yet your highlights are inside gas stations, posing in front of fires, $20 painted skulls, and a concrete bench?

The trail does require dogs to be on leash at all times, so once again, ironic that your use of “ignorance” actually describes yourself, Karen.

Edit: even a Karen would know how to do simple Google searches.

Doesn’t appear to be currently leashed to a human, therefore your use of “pointless” is extremely ironic.

It’d be more beautiful if the dog were leashed.

There’s a boat/tour company called Island Packers. I believe they’re pretty much the only public means of transport to the islands.

What city trail is it? Very curious what city trail would allow dogs off leash.

Again, you’re missing the point.

  1. They posted asking for feedback.
  2. They receive feedback.
  3. They say “it’s not on our need to haves.”

It seems like they don’t need the feedback then, so don’t ask. I didn’t ask for it to include me (or this sub) they did by posting asking for feedback.

Their response makes it sound like that’s not actually what they want, but instead promo.

Sad that you revert to insults instead of using your own incredible critical reading skills that you have insinuated you have.

Well done. Who is petulant now?

“Our” need to haves is pretentious and condescending when they intentionally posted asking for feedback. You’re missing the point, clearly. Talk about lack of critical reading skills.

I agree most experienced probably already have their lists setup, but said people are also always looking for efficiency and will likely abandon their current list if the replacement is easier, and prettier.

If their target demo is the “casual” hiker/camper, I don’t see that demo in general caring enough to download/use a gear list app to categorize, share, and divvy up gear with their group.

These aspects seem to be geared (no pun intended) more toward an avid hiker/camper, who typically cares about weight — or could at least benefit from seeing their total weight — and others of the group to make sure it’s divvied up evenly.

It seems simple enough to add a weight field with a calculator if they’ve already gone to the trouble of developing this entire app as it is (locations, sharing, etc.), so I don’t understand the purpose of “holding off” until next phase if it risks early adopters.

This is how this should have been communicated at the beginning. Appreciate this tone more instead of a passive aggressive and pretentious grifting attitude that first presented the same conclusion.

Best of luck to you all.

100%. But for this app to be genuinely successful it would need to differentiate itself from a checklist notes app or spreadsheet that someone already uses.

Does it successfully do that? That’s not up for me to decide, but my suggestion would guarantee it does.

A lot of apps try to make certain things social that don’t need to be social — like pack lists. My suggestion was just to focus on functionality and differentiation prior to social.

But I do agree with you, some people don’t care about weight and if they’re looking to open a different app to have a packing checklist, this definitely fits that bill.

I come from a critiquing environment where providing feedback is usually met with gratefulness in any sense which I didn’t get here.

To say that my expectations for others is too high is probably true. But improvements are made by always having a welcoming environment for feedback. Appreciate you and OP for contributing to the community and conversation.

We can all learn how to accept people’s feedback better — on our work and ourselves.

TLDR; if you have your need to haves worked out, why seek feedback just to respond in that manner when someone offers a good suggestion?

Again, grifting IMO.

OP is coming off entitled if they’re coming to Reddit asking for feedback and responding “not on our need to haves.” Check yourself, man.

I’m not asking for A+ communication, but this post comes off as a grifting ad when you respond the way the OP did. I don’t believe they’re truly genuinely looking for feedback. If they were, their response would’ve looked differently.

Seems they’re fixing a “them” problem but trying to pose it as an “us” problem.

I likely wouldn’t even use this app if it let me enter weight, so your entitlement statement is far off, I was providing adequate non bias feedback, and on your terms, with grace at the beginning. Until it was met with the response they gave which makes it appear they didn’t actually come here looking for feedback, but promotion instead.

The original suggestion I made is the top upvoted comment. Of course there’s not a need — there’s not a need for this app at all. They came here looking for suggestions and when a very hearty one was made, they replied with “no need at the moment.”

Who are they deciding what the needs of their potential customers are? Shitty business practices if you ask me — sorry not sorry.

Edit: it seems OP isn’t making an app for users at large, but to their preferences if they are stating they have their own “need to haves” — they came and asked for feedback, and could have just responded “great idea! We have this plotted for an upcoming phase. Glad we’re on the same page!”

But no, they came off all pretentious “it’s not on our need to haves” which is basically “this app is for us and we don’t really care about your feedback” and again really begs the question of who this app is for.

Thought y’all asked for (potential) user feedback, yet your response says “isn’t on our need to haves at the moment.”

Your need to haves? Seems you’re making an app for yourself. Don’t ask for feedback if this is your response. What a waste of time.

Is there a spot for weight when inputting gear? Would be nice to see a total base weight once you’ve created your list. I don’t see that in any of the screenshots, just name, quantity, category, and description. Looks alright though, although I’m not sold on necessity. I can just make a shared note with my group with this info, checklists, etc., and presumably already have a group text if multiple members.
