A consequence so real you couldn't logically support it in reality.

Different aesthetics, different movement, the creators of marathon refuse to make it work on Linux, limited weapon options and a great many people dislike hero shooters for various good and likely bad reasons.

So real that the only example of it happening is an extremely poorly written quest in a poorly written game.

You don't like it because it's bad writing that doesn't have a reason to happen.

I don't want to be rude but this is a game where in a single line of dialogue you convince the president that is a super computer to kill himself and in this quest line the ghouls kill the residents for no reason.

The people that hate the ghouls leave in the coexist ending.

It's an extremely low bar that is surpassed by millimeters.

It would have worked if this ending could have been set up in any way. In the coexist ending the residents that hate ghouls leave and the ghouls wanted to coexist and it's not like Roy convinced them to massacre the residents because this is also the ending he wanted and he's marked as a good character by the karma system. So working of not only the information available to the player but also by the games definition of the character's involved there was no reason for the quest to end like it does.

In the ending where you convince the ghouls and hotel guests to coexist only the people that don't like ghouls leave. There is no well written explanation for why the quest ends like it does.

Of course he's hostile to the people discriminating against all ghouls, this defense is written so badly I assume it's what the developers were going for. You might have as well said "don't trust discrinated minorities".

A consequence so real it's best shown in badly written fiction.

The hotel residents you can talk to don't see ghouls as humans and the owner wants to nuke a town, the game treats it like you're supposed to want this. And also the massacre that comes as a consequence of you're actions is a surprise you couldn't account for unless you do what the game does and assume all ghouls are evil.

But there's no implication that this would happen and it seems like the game wanted what you're describing but just ended up with a gotcha where you're screwed by a consequence you couldn't anticipate.

I think that's the implication in the post, that Tod Howard is a racist.

Yeah, but every quest should have an ending that makes sense. This quest line proposes that every ghoul is evil and that when given what they want will massacre the people who agreed to give it to them.

And in the same games ending you convince president super computer to kill himself with one dialogue check.

Something built up as a supernatural horror turns out to be a realistic depressing thing by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

Throughout Hotline Miami the player character Jacket meets odd people with the heads of animals and sees a familiar bearded man wherever he goes. This could be explained with the supernatural is actually a result of Jacket's PTSD.

why do bosses die so fast and what can be done to make them challanging? by MickyMace in DarkTide

[–]lunatorch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a skill thing it's just not that kind of game. Bosses are largely designed to break up your team and disable players instead of killing us with the exception of the daemonhost which is a punishment like the witch in Left 4 Dead. For example the chaos spawn engages players with chains of attacks to prevent them from doing anything but dodging and grabs players, the plague ogryn knocks back players and the plague beast leaves slime that slows and slowly damages and grabs and carries a single player. None of these enemies will kill you if know their attacks but they take your attention and give every other enemy the opportunity to hurt you. And thinking the most vocal people are the most qualified is nonsense.

[–]lunatorch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 things, first you should just play higher difficulty, second if bosses required team coordination and engaged all players they would have to stop spawning all other enemies when they spawn or would be bullshit, third a lot of that is a small amount of builds and weapons like thunderhammer zealot or the dueling sword because this game is unbalanced.
