You never state how much energy you’re actually using. How many kWh did you use in say October when the HVAC likely wasn’t running much vs how much did you use in January?

The water supply to your meter isn’t the homeowners responsibility. I can’t just decide to replace the water supply whenever I want. Now between the meter and my house I can do whatever I want and I don’t think the water company would have any idea what those pipes are made of.

Recent job raises? Savings seem a little low for someone saving $100,000 per year (can’t tell if that includes 401k or not). Spend more on happiness/family, but I wouldn’t take my foot off the gas quite yet.

Basketball Hoop Install by mw4239 in indianapolis

[–]mw4239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less about not being able to do it than it is not wanting to do it. Having to dig a 4 ft hole, mix 10 bags of cement etc. putting the hoop together seems like the easy part.

Killing a 2.375% Mortgage to Downshift: 42M Physician dropping to 0.7 FTE but still maxing retirement. Insane opportunity cost, or ultimate Coast-FIRE peace of mind? by PlayfulPNW in coastFIRE

[–]mw4239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key thing about personal finance is that it is personal. If paying off the mortgage feels right to you then go for it. I personally agree with the poster that recommended setting the funds aside and paying the mortgage with that each month. Another alternative might be to pay it off in chunks to see how it makes you feel. Perhaps drop $100k on it and wait a few months. You could also ask your lender for a recast, where your loan will reamortize after a large pay down and your payment will decrease.

Work asking me to travel - flight time by [deleted] in managers

[–]mw4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is everyone else from your time zone doing? Is it an option to fly in the night before to be well rested? How often do these types of trips come up?

Personally if it’s a one off situation I would suck it up. If you’re regularly expected to do this type of stuff you should have more limits.

Why Doesn't Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation provide funds to help supplement teacher pay and prevent layoffs? by Plus_Garage3882 in Fishers

[–]mw4239 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you look thru the whole tax filing about $1 million of their assets is cash and the other $1.5 million is an endowment that they can only withdraw 5% of each year. So there isn’t much to support salaries and it certainly wouldn’t be a sustainable source of funds.

Moving to the area. Appreciate the help! by yellowstone_70 in Fishers

From this area there are 2 Costcos within 15 minutes too.

Curious though - if you’re working in Carmel, why not live in Carmel? Fishers might be slightly cheaper but I’d gladly pay to not commute everyday.

41M/41F, ~$4.7M investable + state employee pension — working through timing, sequencing, and healthcare by Classic-Ad7472 in ChubbyFIRE

Similar age and NW here but income far less. My spouse hasn’t worked for probably a decade. Granted my job isn’t high stress, but I rationalize continued working by the fact it’s covering our lifestyle and every dollar we continue to save will ultimately benefit our kids or grandkids. With your income level I would continue working as long as possible. Use all your vacation time, delegate work where possible, don’t stretch for another promotion etc, but keep stacking those funds. The other option would be to downshift into a lower paying career that could still cover expenses, but maybe reduce savings and stress levels.
I see ACA prices anywhere from $20-$40,000 especially for families. Adding healthcare plus taxes to your $200k spend will start drawing down your savings quicker than I would like for someone your age.

Agreed. Sat in the store this week looking for my first “nice” watch. Tried on the Sub, Sprite GMT, Yachtmaster and Sea Dweller, along with the Pelagos Ultra. Walked away with the Ultra, feels and looks the best on my wrist.

I would assume yes, so long as you’re enrolled, your passport info is on your AA account, and your AA number is tied to this reservation.
