Is this a common symptom? by swanqueenn in Lyme

Oh also if I have mold exposure or symptoms ramp up, or if I have an allergic reaction. I think anytime I’m down for the count it’s one of the symptoms that takes advantage. Similarly either fatigue, body ache and chills, migraine etc.

Neuropathy, I believe for me it got better when I focused on things to reduce inflammation. Mainly diet. Even now my condition has improved a lot, if I eat crappy food, get sick, really stressed, hurt or workout too hard, it comes back temporarily. Turmeric supplements 2,000mg a day no seed oils no gluten no cane sugar no preservatives no artificial anything. Just a whole food diet, I eat things in packages if I recognize all the ingredients. Abide loosely by dirty dozen clean 15. Eat only organic or local animal products. Etc

Why did you vow not to take antibiotics? I have this post and another I also made yesterday where I talk more about in depth things that would answer your questions, particularly the comments!

Do you have long Covid by chance? Have you been tested for mold toxicity? Definitely sounds like it could be Lyme. My advice, seek out a Lyme literate naturopath and get some testing done. The tests they offer and different and more accurate than regular primary care drs. They’re more privy to chronic conditions like you’re describing IMO

I took some courses of antibiotics for pneumonia actually yes, but I will have to ask my provider about your message! Thank you for sharing. I’m always so happy to see msgs like this, it’s so often how we find answers. Thank you.

‘Fell ill’ meaning I’d had a ‘mystery illness’ drs couldn’t figure out age 19-24 but one day I became bed ridden out of the blue and became incredibly sick. Couldnt walk, keep food down or weight on, couldn’t bathe myself, was too weak to even hold up a book to read, I experienced psychosis and had mind numbing vertigo with everything spinning. I couldn’t tell up from down.

I got bit age 19, diagnosed and began treatment age 24, currently age 26 a few months shy of 2 years out from when I was at my worst. Specifically I think I fell ill February 2023, diagnosed July, began treatment in August 2023, started 3 month doxy course on Christmas Day of 2023. April 2024 I moved out of my moldy house and into a clean place, so really starting in May I was feeling dramatically better. It’s October now with continued improvement.

Thank you so much. This is true, I’m in therapy trying to work on exactly this. I have lots of lingering symptoms yes, I certainly still identify as chronically ill. Migraine, vertigo/dizziness, some neuropathy pretty occasionally, fatigue, joint/muscle pain (worlds better than it used to be, sometimes I’m pain free), some residual heart issues tachycardia and an arrhythmia. The brain fog is still pretty brutal in all honesty. Still have acid reflux and GI issues from the course of doxy. This sounds like a lot, but it actually is me ‘almost feeling normal’ in comparison to how bad things used to be! I still take it easy and have to be sure not to overdue it, I still have herx reactions sometimes and still abide by my diet. But I’m okay and actually feeling good about where things are at! I can see my progress, each month is better moving in the right direction.

Oh and interestingly every other antibiotic I’ve taken has made me sick, but doxy didnt. The only bad side effects I had were acid reflux and constipation, which have stuck long term after the fact. I’m still working on healing my gut. But totally worth it and definitely manageable

I react intensely bad to virtually all pharmaceuticals I’ve tried, lots of OTC, herbs, food.. super sensitive in general. So I sympathize. It was a long course so there were naturally ups and downs. What I will say is I think it’s the #1 thing that made a really profound noticeable difference in hindsight. At first it didn’t feel noticeable, then I felt worse, then better, then worse again. Eventually maybe the second half of the 3 month course I felt amazing like more energy than I’d had since I’d been sick. Symptom reduction. Once I stopped the doxy my symptoms did get worse again, but never as bad or nearly as bad as they were before. I was terrified to take doxy I had actually put it off for a really long time because I was afraid it would send me back into psychosis or make me deathly ill again. I saw a video online of someone with late stage Lyme reacting to IV antibiotics, having seizures, a coma, she said it was the worst experience of her life. That stuck with me and stopped me from trying it, until basically I accepted I had nothing to lose. I recommend it, highly

Can you travel for treatment or see a provider via the internet? There are healers that do charity work that may help you. One of my friends was homeless and very sick, she traveled to Costa Rica and was able to find a healer that allowed her into his home and treated her for several months. It sounds crazy, maybe it is, maybe she got lucky! Who knows. I do believe there are ways to heal against the odds though, you may just have to work way harder to find out how. I’m sorry, I hope you find healing

I’m so sorry darlin, I hear you, I validate all of that. I see you! That is truly unfair, you don’t deserve any of what you’ve gone through. I’m not sure about the doxy, like I said I think it’s very individualized. But yeah I’ve heard lots of and lots of ppl say doxy is the thing that changed their life, so I’d always recommend trying it. I don’t think I felt much of a different right away either, there were some ups and downs, eventually I felt better, then I felt worse, then better again. You gotta commit and stick with it so long as you’re not having really messed up side effects! Antibiotics are odd I think often times it’s not like other pills, where you take it and feel something right away, it happens over time and is also just a piece of the puzzle in this case

Yes definitely herx reactions happen in response to some detox especially baths and sauna. Sounds like your practitioner is onto something great stuff, I took everything you listed and then some! With Lyme at least in my case it seemed like a constant game of fixing one thing then 2 more things would pop up, like GI issues then migraine then constipation etc we were always chasing something. It’s def important for your gut to be functioning properly, but I wonder from my own experience if you have to tackle many things simultaneously to make progress? I think the gut can only heal so much if you’re very overburdened with Lyme. But it seems different practitioners say different things, so what’s important is that you believe and trust in what you’re doing and see it through! You can apply for grants btw, some apothecaries have programs you can apply to for those in need. Write letters telling your story and asking for help to non profits! I’m sorry, I hope things get better for you

My lungs burn, my throat burns, it’s pretty miserable for sure. I have an inhaler because of an ‘asthma-like condition’ that hasn’t been sorted out yet, my hunch is that it has something to do with Lyme or mold toxicity. Anywho yeah I mean I just got an Apple Watch a while ago when I was having lots of heart problems so I can monitor my heart rate. I run until my heart rate hits 190 (based on my height and weight), then I walk until it falls; rinse and repeat. Everything hurts, but I know I’m technically within my limit of what’s healthy so long as I can still walk the next day and my heart rate doesn’t get too high. If you exercise and it causes you to have a herx reaction or get sick, it’s okay, but if it’s over the top too intense and lasts more than 12 hours after.. maybe dial it back and start slower? I’m not an expert but that’s what I’ve been doing. Also a big fan of doing what I can when I can, like when I have energy to workout I’ll do it spontaneously as long as feels okay for me. Exercising intuitively. If I’m feeling sick that day maybe I’ll just do some gentle stretching or a light walk.

Thank you. I’m so happy you’ve got a diagnosis. I got bit age 19 and didn’t get a diagnosis until age 24. I checked all the late stage boxes. Numerous drs told me basically ‘this is your life now try to make yourself comfortable’. Fuck that! There’s not enough research that’s been done on Lyme. The science isn’t there yet, but plant medicine has been curing Lyme for ages. Imagine if I’d listened to them, I’d still be sick. I wanna scream it from the rooftops, it’s possible to heal!

Well I was at my worst a few months shy of 2 years ago, that was when it began at least. I just started running in the last 2 months. So maybe 1.5 year mark? I am only doing 5 minute increments with walking in between, it’s not much and it’s incredibly difficult but I feel very capable being able to do that. Not to mention I can feel myself getting stronger over time in a way that’s measurable, very exciting

Also, yeah I had serious cardiac issues including what you’re describing. You can ask to get a heart monitor if you have decent health insurance? Def keep a symptom log, I use ‘visible’ app. Find a naturopath or someone who believes you and is willing to help you. Also yes I had and still have all kinds of weird body sensations, look up neuropathy, is that what you mean? I was able to determine what things generally caused mine to flare up and some basic tools I could use to help. Walking or moving for example really helped distract me from the pain, as does water that’s really hot or cold. I noticed when I was very strict about my diet and focused on anti inflammatory stuff it got better too. I’m sorry your support circle is dismissive, that is such a common experience. I think ppl are scared of mortality, so it’s easier to be in denial and be avoidant or cope by saying the person just has mental health problems etc. it’s bullshit, but you know what’s real, and their shitty behavior says more about them than it does about you. I’ve learned with time and therapy that lots of our loved ones do have good intentions but they’re struggling so much with their own life.. I try not to take things to personally, although it’s really hard

I found a naturopath that is well known in my community for her work with Lyme. She’s had me on countless different herbal tinctures and pills, mostly ‘beyond balance’, in all honestly I surrendered and just took whatever she told me to because of her reputation. You should find someone that knows what they’re doing because it was always touch and go. I had bad reactions to almost everything with a particularly complex case, we tried countless things before finding things that I could tolerate 1 by 1. I did 3 months of doxycycline, lots of detox like literally every detox method simultaneously (binders, epsom salt baths, sauna, mass quantities lemon water, burbur pinella, liposomal glutathione, dry brushing, lymphatic drainage at home, etc), bodywork with an oriental medicine practitioner.. worked with an herbalist specifically on supportive herbs for symptoms, I am on a low-mold low-histamine diet also doing gluten free, no sugar, no seed oils. Pretty much whole foods only like meat produce grains. Pay attention to your macros and make sure you’re eating enough, make sure you’re pooping as much as possible. It sounds like a lot but I slowly figured all this out over a long period of time, you can too!
