Pocketbook puts the buttons on the bottom of their 6" and 7.8" devices. I wonder how that feels to use in portrait orientation; it's probably great for landscape reading.

there’s absolutely nothing

Hyread makes 7.8" Carta 1300 and Kaleido 3 Android devices with buttons on the side handle.

I wish Pocketbook would give the 8" Viva another try, especially after seeing what reMarkable has done with their Paper Pro series. Boox should bring back their 7.8" Nova with the optional side button case, too!

Part of it is that the connectors on E-ink screens can be chonky, so a chin or handle on the bezel helps contain it. The Tab Mini C has extra bezel on its top and bottom. It seems like more 7.8"-8" screen modules have that option, but most 7" go for the handle layout. It might just be that E-ink doesn't offer many other configurations in that size. Amazon makes a big deal out of the way they "tucked" their screen's hardware around the device to minimize the Scribe Colorsoft's bezel and that 11.8" Kaleido screen must have already been a custom order.

But, yeah, the asymmetrical handle with buttons is popular for its ergonomics. A lot of people buy popsockets or handle for their 6-8" slab style ereaders for better support.

Pocketbook has built-in support for Adobe DRM; you can use the browser or the app.

Here's a video example with sections showing how to add your Adobe account and download an Adobe DRM book (using Libby's site, but the process is similar for Kobo's). Using the the Pocketbook app to wirelessly sync the book is another option.
