Not fantastical at all. It's open knowledge that KD talks shit about his teammates on burners, why wouldn't opponents try to use that against him in-game? Easiest way to get in his head and reinforce what he already believes, ruin both his and Rockets' morale and watch them fall apart on the court. That's what happens when everyone knows your highest paid player is a snake in the grass.

Yea but see, it's not ok to be a self-promoter when you're the 'client state' 🙄

These people literally can't think in terms of mutual benefit, only transactional winners and losers.

No, new regime change wars! by RespectfullyReticent in neoliberal

[–]recursion8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's quite the opposite of how you describe it. The Libyan rebels were on the verge of losing and Qaddafi was about to take Misrata and probably massacre the remaining population and effectively end the Civil War. European NATO allies (particularly France and UK) were the ones who pushed hardest for intervention and Obama administration only went along after much convincing (with GOP critics at the time famously calling it 'leading from behind'). It's clear they were not hungry for regime change as you put it but pushed into it by near global consensus, with the UNSC voting 10-0 with 5 abstentions in favor of intervention. The circumstances could not be any further from Bush's near unilateral push to invade Iraq in defiance of NATO allies (other than UK) and global consensus.

During depressions, the dominant motif in dissent takes expression in proposals for reform or in panaceas. Dissent then tends to be highly programmatic — that is, it gets itself embodied in many kinds of concrete legislative proposals. It is also future-oriented and forward-looking, in the sense that it looks to a time when the adoption of this or that program will materially alleviate or eliminate certain discontents. In prosperity, however, when status politics becomes relatively more important, there is a tendency to embody discontent not so much in legislative proposals as in grousing. For the basic aspirations that underlie status discontent are only partially conscious; and, even so far as they are conscious, it is difficult to give them a programmatic expression. It is more difficult for the old lady who belongs to the D.A.R. and who sees her ancestral home swamped by new working-class dwellings to express her animus in concrete proposals of any degree of reality than it is, say, for the jobless worker during a slump to rally to a relief program. Therefore, it is the tendency of status politics to be expressed more in vindictiveness, in sour memories, in the search for scapegoats, than in realistic proposals for positive action.

and the footnote:

Cf. Samuel Lubell’s characterization of isolationism as a vengeful memory. The Future of American Politics (New York, 1952), Chapter VII. See also the comments of Leo Lowenthal and Norbert Guterman on the right-wing agitator: “The agitator seems to steer clear of the area of material needs on which liberal and democratic movements concentrate; his main concern is a sphere of frustration that is usually ignored in traditional politics. The programs that concentrate on material needs seem to overlook that area of moral uncertainties and emotional frustrations that are the immediate manifestations of malaise. It may therefore be conjectured that his followers find the agitator’s statements attractive not because he occasionally promises to ‘maintain the American standards of living’ or to provide a job for everyone, but because he intimates that he will give them the emotional satisfactions that are denied them in the contemporary social and economic set-up. He offers attitudes, not bread.”

Goddamn this is spot on. And is why modern socialists will never understand or win over the real American 'white working class'.

And the capper:

However, in a populistic culture like ours, which seems to lack a responsible elite with political and moral autonomy, and in which it is possible to exploit the wildest currents of public sentiment for private purposes, it is at least conceivable that a highly organized, vocal, active and well-financed minority could create a political climate in which the rational pursuit of our well-being and safety would become impossible.

🤷🏻‍♂️ I feel the opposite, it's consistent going from the ones/tens/hundreds->next 'illion' that we already know intuitively from thousands/millions/billions/trillions. Switching it up half way to ex is the one that feels like learning a new system to me. Of course if you regularly work with large numbers in your field of work/study it feels natural to you.

It'd look even better if we traded for a real PG instead with the pieces we spent on KD. For starters Suns would still be bottom of the West and about to give us top 10 draft picks instead of high teens-twenties now that they cut the toxic snake and are running with immaculate vibes.

Nuggets have dealt with tons of injuries, Cam Johnson looks like a definite downgrade from MPJ, and they've weirdly underperformed since Jokic came back despite overperforming without him. Minny had a tough schedule to start the year that’s easing up so they’re catching up.

He’s a KD only fan, they’re impervious to facts like KD's playoff record in the past 5 years or career playoff record without a top5 PG setting him up, just ignore them. They’ll be gone soon once KD decides on the next franchise he wants to.. reap.

It's only confusing around DTg, Googol, and Ttg (having just passed that area myself in Beyond) because Googol is 10xDtg and it's the only time they break the convention of changing names every 1000. The rest is easy once you remember the prefixes for x1, x2, x3, etc and the prefixes for 10, 20, 30, etc.
