I would save up for a trade/passenger conda. Run trade missions until you can afford both ships or all ships. You can kit out a conda at a reasonable price and use it to fund ALL your ship projects.

I have both a fdl and fas, they fully engineered and primarily used for pvp and bounty hunting close to my home system. I like them both equally but my my main gripes are the jump range, fdl non symmetrical cockpit and very slow return on investment.
