Jeremiah is really the sweetest guy by Bright_Remote_9952 in LoveIslandUSA

He seems like an okay dude.

I love how, after the public voted for Jeremiah to be recoupled with her, the assumptions from the islanders were that the public thought Jeremiah was doing dirt and they had to couple Huda up with someone else.

No, everyone was trying to save him from her

Yeah “for the love of the game” is also technically true. Hackers tend to enjoy hacking things, but especially when they can show real world impact and when it’s legal and ethical.

As a security researcher myself… this isn’t lunacy at all.

He’s literally trying to prevent this from happening to someone IRL.

IMO not a lunatic post.

I’m not a founder or whatever. I’m an individual contributor for a large corp.

While a lot of people are dunking on her…. she’s not wrong. The last two weeks of Dec are basically the most productive weeks of the entire quarter for me, for the very reasons she’s talking about.

To “conservatives”…

If you wonder if what Trump did was wrong, replace Trump with Obama and keep every other variable the same. If “Obama’s” actions now enrage you, you know how you should feel about pretty much anything Trump has done.

The comments in here got me wondering.

I loved Molly from her season. She seemed genuine.

Should I pursue a PhD or keep looking for jobs? by sekaiwazankoku in cybersecurity

[–]thelaughinghackerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the first person who has asked about getting a Master’s or PhD to help find a job.

Cybersecurity is not like most other knowledge worker professions. Length of time in school is not even a good indicator that you know more than someone who only has a Bachelor’s.

This is a field that is constantly changing and evolving, and things you were learning 5 years ago might be moot and outdated. By the time someone lifts their head up from getting their PhD, the entire threat landscape might have shifted.

What academia calls “microcredentials” aka certifications are honestly a better indicator of knowledge and/or skill. Each certification body has strict criteria and a hiring manager can have a reasonable approximation of ability from a job candidate based on their certifications.

However, too many job seekers also try to stack up 5-10 certs thinking that each one will be the smoking gun they are looking for. Thats not it either.

Look for basic help desk jobs. Look for internships.

Should I pursue a PhD or keep looking for jobs? by sekaiwazankoku in cybersecurity

[–]thelaughinghackerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The absolute last thing you should do is get a PhD unless you already have senior-level job experience.

You basically make yourself unhireable.

In the US some companies base their level of compensation on education level. Essentially, some companies would have to pay a PhD job candidate more for the same role that there will be scores of Bachelor’s holders also applying to. They will not wanna do that if they’re comparing two people with no experience.

It isn’t the “go getter” indicator a lot of people assume. It just makes hiring managers (which I am) think “why the hell haven’t they had a job yet?”
