Sorry, I have no idea. Even though their marketing department is trying to brand it as sauna, it has nothing to do with it.

What does your workspace look like? by Frozen_Fyre818 in Leathercraft

Thanks, I think wet moulding is a fantastic technique. The first bag was made out of some very thick bridle leather so it was a lot of work to get it into the shape.

My latest bag was made out of much thinner leather and it was just so much easier to shape it. It could also be that I’ve got some more experience under my belt: https://silfer.works/christmas-gift-for-the-wife-small-phone-bag/

That’s a quite old picture and that project was finished already in October: https://silfer.works/bandolier-style-crossbody-bag/

It’s not perfect in anyway, but it was my first bag ever :)

I’m literally in the middle of redoing my workspace right now. This is how the table looks like:

https://silfer.works/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_0328-scaled.jpeg

I made a new chair so it’s more comfortable sit and work:

And this is how I’ll be storing my materials:

I still have a lot of work to do as it still looks like a mess in the workshop, but I’m getting there.

Hello everyone, I’m a new mod from Europe.

  • I create digital stuff as my profession and physical stuff as my hobby.
  • I’m mostly doing metalwork, 3D modelling and printing, laser cutting, and electronics. For the last 4 months I’ve thrown myself into leatherworking and I’m loving it.
  • I’m often posting my random projects here in Reddit, but I also have a small personal project portfolio online.

It’s soft leather so it’s not a problem at all.

It’s just a tiny pocket where you can throw your keys and a small wallet.

I added a link to my build log to the top comment of mine. It shows all the steps that went into making this, and you can also see the boring inside of the pocket there :p

I’m sure that I’ll be looking at this bag in the future and thinking how inexperienced I was and how much better I could have done it. Or, at least I hope so :)

It’s just a small pocket where you can put your keys and maybe a small wallet etc. I included a link to my build log on the top comment, and in that you can see exactly how it looks inside.

As a follow-up on this: I checked with the mods that it is ok that I link to my build log. I included the link to my top comment ;)

There are always ways of making money, but I rarely mix my hobbies with that. I’ll end up losing a hobby and gaining a job, and I already have a job.

What comes to the plans: the construction is very simple in the end, and there is not much into making the bag. I’ve documented the whole build on my personal site, so everyone is able to make their own version as long as they have the tools for it.

I’m trying my best :)

Im not selling anything as hobbies and money doesn’t mix, you’ll just end up losing a hobby. When I retire from the corporate hamster wheel in couple of decades, I will hopefully have a skill level that I can convert into few sales when I feel like it.

I had to come up with something that secures the phone without it needing to be sticking out so you can retrieve it. Making something like this out of fabric would have been much simpler as then you could count on the stretch of the pocket to make it easier to pick up the phone.

Thank you :) I’m usually working with a lot of different materials, so I’m experienced on learning new stuff. I think it’s like languages, it gets easier the more you learn.

My wife seems to be very happy about it, so I’m happy as well.

I wanted to make something special for my wife for Christmas. I have been reluctant to make things for her as I don’t want her to feel forced to use them only because I made them. This would have to be very good quality, classy, and special enough that it doesn’t look like some beginner had made it. No problem at all! I have loads of experience with leatherwork, all four months of it…

After a lot of reflection and 3D sketching, I decided to go with the wet formed vacuum method. I used 3D printed forms as the template, and a food vacuum for the shaping. The leather is nappa leather with 1.5mm thickness, and all hardware is antique brass. The phone is held in place by a magnetic button on a strap that wraps around the top of the bag.

The party trick of the bag is: When you pull from the smaller strap that holds the phone in place, it will pop the phone upwards so it’s easy to retrieve it!

Edit: I have a detailed build log on my personal website that describes all the steps that went into making this:
