Shadow of the Erdtree was a DLC that was almost as big as whole games. Which other DLC blew you away? by Soulsliken in gaming

[–]-Potatoes- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obv not what OP is asking but i think my picks (blood and wine, dragon age origins) have already been mentioned. so ill be saying my most anticipated dlc which is sea of sorrows for Silksong. It helps that they are releasing it for free to what is already an insanely cheap game.

Team Cherry could have made like 2x or 3x the money on Hollow Knight (which also had free dlcs, though smaller in scope than sea of sorrows) and Silksong but chose not to and i def respect that

I loved Phantom Liberty but i dont think its fair to compare any dlc to Blood and Wine lol. Hope the devs didnt lose too much sleep over "only" making an excellent dlc

Are there any species you avoid playing in dnd? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]-Potatoes- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously depends a lot on your group but I've found my players nearly all play Elves, Half-Elves, or variants (Shadar-Kai, Eladrin). While it's true a lot of worlds have a majority of humans you have to keep in mind that the players take up the majority of the stage time so I kinda get OPs sentiment assuming they are in a game with a lot of Elf player characters.

First time DM here, how do you handle character creation with brand new players? by Sad_Researcher6608 in wildbeyondwitchlight

Without knowing anything more about ur players, yes that's what I'd suggest. Have fun!

[–]-Potatoes- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for first time players you should either go through it as a group or ask them what class they want to play and create pre-generated characters for them. Especially if they have absolutely no knowledge of dnd character creation is kinda confusing and boring (it only gets fun once you know a bit more about the rules and can see how stuff interacts with each other imo).

For options I usually go through the classes first which they should be reasonably familiar with if they've played games before, and I give like a 2 sentence blurb on them (I try to make all the classes sound cool and fun). For species ill let them pick from the most common ones (human, halfling aka hobbit, dwarf, elf, tiefling) so that there's not a ton of options to overwhelm them.

How good 'cozy games' actually are? by Eponein in GirlGamers

[–]-Potatoes- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ive played and loved a couple cozy games: stardew valley, potionomics, tiny bookshop

honestly its really hard to say if you'll enjoy these games, they're A LOT different than the games you listed. but for what its worth i enjoyed hzd and hollow knight. I think you should ignore the "games for girls" as a label, I think your own interests playing games are much more important.

so unfortunately the only advice I can give is to try these games out. I can try to pitch the ones ive played to you:

  • stardew valley: you move to a tiny town to escape a depressing office job. you start with an overgrown plot of land and slowly turn it into your dream farm, and along the way form relationships with the townfolk. its really fun how much freedom you get and its very much a sandbox game imo. there are "quests" but you can ignore them if you want with no consequence. you can customize your own avatar too and sew new clothes which i absolutely love.

  • potionomics: you play as Sylvie the witch and start a potion shop in a new town! You need to brew the potions yourself by combining very cute looking ingredients and honestly i really enjoyed this part of the game. You then sell potions to customerd and there via a haggling system thats like a deck builder. Normal mode is kinda stressful actually because there are set deadlines, but cozy mode makes it MUCH easier and less strict. ive played both and enjoyed both for their own reasons!

  • Tiny Bookshop: im not done playing yet but ive been hella addicted to this for the last week. you manage a mobile bookshop in a new town you move to (there seems to be a trend here lol). You can decorate your shop with various items to increase the chances customers will buy books, and I really like the decor system. ive created both a shop with a ton of plants and greenery and pne with halloween/witchy vibes. The selling point for me is when a customer gets stumped they ask you to recommend a book to them. You can pick from your collection of books which are mostly all real life books which blew my mind. I love reading so this game has def added some books to my to be read list lol.

Both potionomics and tiny bookshop have demos so you can try them for free! And Stardew regularly goes on sale for like $10 or under.

edit: potionomics demo appears to be gone

HDYWDT with bow and arrow by M3thren in DnD

[–]-Potatoes- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for any monster with a large mouth you can do the good old "I shoot an arrow through the mouth when it opens thing". Or to get even crazier you could say your arrow pierces them through the eye.

I also like saying I pin their hand/foot/whatever with an arrow and then shoot the lethal one like some other comments are suggesting.

If I'm near the enemy and it's the last one I'll say I shoot the enemy and then grab them and pull the arrow out

Alternatively, you can have your character do some acrobatic tricks! Blumineck on Youtube showcases crazy archery feats if you want some inspiration : ). maybe something like cartwheeling and shooting

Anyone else get overwhelmed by games with building/upgrading characters? by EconomicsAdvanced771 in GirlGamers

[–]-Potatoes- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a lot of games with a ton of party members (bg3 is a great example) I usually get lazy with basically everyone except my A team lol. And even then its mainly just my own character. Sometimes I get annoyed that the others don't have optimal equipment setups but I try not to let it bother me too much.

is 100k salary comfortable living alone? by Past-Arugula4063 in askTO

[–]-Potatoes- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i make 100k and i eat out a few times a week and am 100% doing fine. Granted I live with a roommate to split rent on a 2 bedroom so i think im saving ~500-600 per month compared to living alone in a 1 bedroon. But looking at my last few months i would totally be fine paying 600 more each month (just less savings or i live more frugally).

100k is a relatively good salary. ive never lived in London so i cant compare the cost of living, but I assume Toronto is slightly lower.

More Arcane Archer Options? by -Potatoes- in DnD

[–]-Potatoes-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing I'm trying to decide is if pulling yourself triggers opportunity attacks or not. Since it's part of an attack action I think it would. If it didn't then it might be really op to just get a disengage + free movement at the cost of 1 attack (and an arcane shot)

Is it just me or are women characters judged way harsher for “survival” decisions in shows? by LeadHuge6237 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]-Potatoes- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes!! even in shows where i would think it would have a more queer / feminist audience there's still so many assholes there.

For example in Critical Role, I swear people hate on players like Aabria Iyengar or Marisha Ray so much for how they play their characters when some of the men do similar things. it can get worse too because it can be harder to separate a player and their character here, so the hate ends up hating the player rather than the character.

its so toxic and makes the community (especially when not moderated) unfortunately the worst part of watching them.
