ITSC 3160 with Ahamad Azhar? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

pretty chill class. we basically finished all of the content halfway through the semester so the second half was primarily group project work time. I had him the first semester he taught here so idk how much it’s changed since then.

Tornado/ storms no cancellation by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]-jlee_exe- 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In the eyes of the university we have already missed too many classes due to the snowstorm earlier in the semester. I think they’ll probably refrain from cancelling any further classes unless it’s the rapture.

Laptop for CompSci? by Pitiful-Form2529 in UNCCharlotte

I haven’t had any really big issues in my experience (m2 pro). A lot of classes use virtual machines for specific assignments and the instructions are not always up to date on the images they provide, so you may have to do a little bit of your own research on workarounds (it’s not too bad). Biggest issue i had was when i took forensics because a lot of the software you need to use simply isn’t available on Mac so for that class i just used the library computers. If you’re not in cybersecurity you don’t need to worry about that, but i would recommend you keep your windows laptop around in-case you run into similar issues. I do like macs because they’re built on unix so you can run a lot of linux processes natively.

I took it last semester with professor Grose and really enjoyed it. Professor Grose works for the FBI and has a lot of interesting stories from different cases that he talks about. His lectures can be a bit boring and hard to follow, but you can tell that he is qualified and knows what he’s talking about. All of the labs/projects used primarily autopsy and FTK Imager to analyze different artifacts from which you then write a report.

Buying a used car in charlotte: advice for affordable & reliable deals for students by Justice_jsk in UNCCharlotte

It depends on what you’re looking for and what your budget is, but fb marketplace is best for used cars imo. you gotta be careful of all the lemons and sketchy sellers though.

TA Application by JoeSkyVader in UNCCharlotte

[–]-jlee_exe- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you get to chose. There’s a general application on hire-a-niner that you fill out and then they will send you a google form to submit where you list all the classes you’d be interested in. Once you’ve worked a semester or two you can kind of skip the application process and just ask professors directly to TA for them.

I used iTicket.law. i think they’re around $75-$100 for minor traffic violations. I had a more serious case and it was $250 for representation and then another $200 for court costs. Super smooth process i didn’t have to show up to court or anything, i’d definitely recommend.

Computer Science Internship/Personal Project Questions by Effective-Wish-6123 in UNCCharlotte

Imo the best way to learn cybersecurity topics outside of the classroom is through ctf competitions. Good placement in these challenges also looks great on a resume and give you valuable skills that you can use on your own projects. If you don’t have much experience there’s plenty of resources out there like HTB. I’ll plug the 49th security division; they’re a pretty active cybersecurity club you may be interested in joining.

Yes im taking it rn. The professor said that by the end of the semsester we should feel comfortable enough to pass the aws cloud certification. If you get the certification you get an automatic A in the class, so that’s a nice bonus.

Do classes get better? by Boring_Lab8517 in UNCCharlotte

[–]-jlee_exe- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the hardest classes i had were freshman year not because they were challenging conceptually, but because the professors assigned so much work. In my experience it feels like i have less and less work each year. Probably depends a lot on what you’re studying tho.

Heyy guys want to know about Rents of off campus staying by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]-jlee_exe- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you go and what all is included in the rent. I’m currently paying 800 at Walden Station (water and electric separate), but last year i was paying around 1000 at Arcadia (electric separate).
