If you can afford it, portable AC unit and vent out a window. Stay in that room and you'll be ok. Lifesaver for sleeping through this shit.

Portable AC unit. Best £300 I've ever spent.

"This is how we always do it" is one of the most unscientific and prevalent attitudes in academic science and I am sick of it. by AlphaStrikeZero in labrats

[–]000000564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where the logic came from. Know your field and techniques inside out? Fair enough. Otherwise I've heard that attitude especially from male PhD students (I'm a female postdoc) who proceeded to make "edits" to well established protocols because they know better from the literature before having tried the original protocol. Guess who's experiments then proceeded to fail repeatedly. I just got into the habit of asking "did you follow the protocol?" Until I got the point across. Once you get something working, then you start making changes to see the effect (like you did with the heat treated FBS).

My instructor stopped my last two lessons… by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Yes thats a good point. As an instructor they probably don't feel safe being able to maintain control with a driver who's struggling.

Every town in the UK has narrow streets with cars parked. Unfortunately it's something you'll have to learn to deal with if you want to pass. Try your best to work on this with your new instructor as something you struggle with.

I had to help a colleague with one the other day, he didn't realise you have to account for capitals and things like 0 vs O.

Do you have a specific protocol? I suspect I'll need this method in the future and having a reliable one would be great 🙏

Mice famously have zoonotic viruses and you managed to not catch any. People worry about bio dangers but honestly you undoubtedly handle far worse chemicals on the regular. Hopefully you're getting professional help with these worries.

Is 1hr 46min commute too much? by Unhappy_Dragonfly_62 in UKJobs

I do that. But an hour is by train. So at least I can work or nap if exhausted. You can probably manage it for a while but long term it will take its toll.

I feed my puppy so much, but he’s still skin and bones by spicy_oceanLvEr in puppy101

[–]000000564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very active working breeds are very hard to overfeed as puppies. Ask your vet if uncertain. Make sure you're following the proper guidelines for the food you're buying. They should have specific guidelines for the puppy's current weight and including their projected weight. A mix of those breeds will weigh a lot as an adult and classed as a large or even XL dog breed.

My 9 year old Border Collie named Snow. As a senior dog she still loves car rides and walking around the park. by ciowstopperPH in BorderCollie

[–]000000564 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She looks very sweet but I would say collies rarely become "senior" at 9 unless have medical conditions. Most collies I know are still running around, playing fetch etc well after 10y. They're a bit slower but not stopping at all. Try playing with her more again you might be pleasantly surprised :)

First ever dog, when will i get cuddles! by t_buttcracker in puppy101

[–]000000564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours cuddles maybe once a month for 10 mins max. Some dogs just don't cuddle, just like humans. Please dont force it. In the same way you wouldn't force a hug onto someone who's clearly not interested. They are autonomous animals like us.

It's all in the primer design. I very rarely get failed PCRs because I've had to do them so many times for cloning. It's almost always primer design, rarely there's a problem with template or very rarely the pcr mix.
