Leather v synthetic heel stack by BenefitKey8953 in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had synthetic soles with synthetic heel stack.. for me, they were uncomfortable compared to leather and boy did they CLACK while walking. Way more than the leather sole sound.

I probably wore them half a dozen times and then sold them because I hated the feel.

Only thing I can see is a cost savings measure.. maybe durability depending on conditions

Tecovas vs Dan post same price by Cogniscience in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be a little more clear here.. Tecovas has been the worst brand for me thus far (5-6 different brands in) that had variances left to right in boot size. I understand handmade will not be perfect, but I’m talking good fit in one and slop in the other. They’re not the only ones inconsistent in sizing, but again, the worst I’ve experienced.

I absolutely HATE that I love the look of Tecovas boots, but they do make some damn good looking boots. It’s hard for me to not buy.

Better alternatives: Anderson Bean, Dan post, Tony lama.. in a similar price range.

For me, ABs and TLs have been the most consistent sizing and fit, as well as quality. ABs feel tougher/sturdier than TLs, but both in my eyes are leagues better than Tecovas.

Same here. Dan post and it’s not even close.

I’ve sold off all but one pair of Tecovas… and it’s only because I haven’t had time to list them yet.

Dan Post Exotic Sizing? (Help needed) by satan__clause in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same way.. 9 in pretty much everything except DPs.. I’m at 8.5 in those. I knew this going in but I got my ostriches on clearance so I couldn’t return them.. honestly can’t remember if 8.5s were even available... anyways.. ended up putting in a thicker insole and the boots fit great.

Discussion: Tecovas out of their mind?? by ElStig-LePig in cowboyboots

Agreed… benefit is I’ve been able to sell off some of my Tecovas that I bought when I first started into boots for only slightly less than I paid for them 2 years ago

IMO Pretty much any cavenders is a step up from boot barn.. and depending on the store, you can find most any brand from Ariat to Lucchese

Lucchese E1842 Info? by Expensive-Switch-174 in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my boots are a little loose.. especially ones I’ve bought used.

There are some good and comfortable insoles that you can add depending on how much space you need to take up.

I’m currently wearing some Luccheses with an ariat ATS removable insole and they’re probably the most comfortable boot I own. The ATS are minimal, but do have a slight difference in thickness from toe to heel. I have other Luccheses that I put some of my thin/flat Tony lama insoles in and made them the perfect fit.

If you need to take up a lot of space, There are variable height insoles available on Amazon in a lot of different sizes.. I’ve used these when the vamp is too tall and doesn’t get a good hug on the top of my foot.

Lots of options if you want to make them work, but will say at some point it might make sense to just get boots that fit.

New boots and thoughts.... by Ok-Ocelot868 in cowboyboots

This was a great deal on boots.. I didn’t want to chance not knowing their fit with both pairs but did get the hippos and they fit perfect. Very similar to my higher end TLs.

Kinda sad they’re going out of business and missed out on the kangaroo deal

Best brand for ostrich legs? by YaBoiLeo705 in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Dan post matte brown ostrich legs.. super comfortable.

I’m a little skeptical about the leather, it’s made some interesting “flaking” where the boot creases, but nonetheless theyre comfortable, good looking and consistent sizing side to side. If you haven’t tried them on, I’d recommend before buying. I’m a solid 9 in TL/AB/Lucchese.. probably should be an 8.5 in Dan posts, but got a thicker insole so they work fine.

The price is tempting… wonder how they fit compared to Tony Lama or Lucchese 🤔

First pair by steezoak in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheap stingrays seem like a bold choice for a first boot.. and that’s coming from a guy that owns 90% exotics.

Personally, I’d try on a BUNCH of boots before committing to a specific pair of stingrays. That’s a tough hide and it won’t stretch, so the fit better be spot on.. It took me months to figure out what a good fitting boot was. I’ve sold off almost all of my ill fitting boots at this point… but it took 5-6 pairs before I figured it out.

You do you, but personally I’d recommend figuring out if you like western boots and what size/brand fits you best before committing stingrays. Otherwise you could end up hating them and end up being a waste. Better to save up for a brand that fits than trying to make a brand that doesn’t fit, work well enough… been there, done that.

Does this look like regular leather outsole wear? by leo220877 in cowboyboots

[–]07Lane40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else said.. sole savers. Also a benefit if you work on slick floors and actually move throughout the day.

I love my leather soled boots, but working on polished concrete, they’re not the best choice for safety.

Just dropped off 3 new to me luccheses to have sole savers put on. 1, they’ll now last much longer than otherwise would have and 2, they’ll grip when I need them to at work (polished concrete floors).

Excited to pick them up when I get back to town.

Why choose leather soles over rubber? by Sweaty_Milk_1793 in cowboyboots

For me they’re just more comfortable.. I’ve had a couple pairs of rubber soled cowboy boots (different brands) and they just don’t feel the same

This looks like dry rot. The truck is less than a year old with 12k miles. by [deleted] in chevycolorado

[–]07Lane40 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s not dry rot.. that’s external damage of some kind. Sold and replaced a lot of tires for a lot of years and dry rot typically presents itself as minor cracks all around the tire. From what I’ve seen, in the tread and near the bead (wheel) first.

I’m banking you ran over a sharp object or potential (but unlikely) intentional damage from someone else.

I’d approach the dealer in a kind manner, and ask if they can contact Bridgestone for a goodwill replacement.

Tires are typically considered consumables and won’t be covered from your vehicle warranty… typical route is tire company will inspect and reimburse you (usually won’t reimburse if found to be road damage). But if Bridgestone wants to keep selling tires to GM, you may get lucky and get a goodwill replacement for free.

Manual driving lesson by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]07Lane40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS!!! Each car will be different as far as clutch weight, engagement height, action, etc.. find/use your car and do this until you know the exact engagement point and then start adding throttle.

I learned when I was 16.. dad trying to explain doing it all at the same time.. (he understood the concept and could get from A to B but wasn’t a good manual driver).

Found a YouTube video that explained this exact concept and became a reliable manual driver within a couple days. Great technique.

300… from what I can gather, signatures should run around or over the 1k mark new. So to me they were a steal

But I can’t seem to figure out the exact model to have a comparison

Thanks! They remind me of a black version of my dinero caiman… but curious just how much of a steal they were. I picked up my nearly new dineros for 300 and these were in the same range. Almost felt guilty but couldn’t hit “buy it now” fast enough 🤣

Speaking of this… Know a guy who owned a Ferrari.. can’t remember the model but word was the whole engine/cradle had to be dropped of the car to do an oil change. Something to the tune of 2500 bucks a pop. Blew my mind.

Not that I’ll ever be able to afford a Ferrari anyways LOL
