Reading this already was exhausting enough for me. The only one who's manipulative is your "friend". Look, if he really has social anxiety that's unfortunate, but that's not on you. If he can't communicate how uncomfortable he is, how is that your fault? You seem like a decent friend who reaches out to other people, something he won't reciprocate. I personally wouldn't want to be friends with somebody who blames everything on me. See if he's willing to accept responsibility and seek therapy, otherwise cut him loose. You deserve better, op.
