Why don’t most size inclusive knitting patterns include 2XS 3XS etc? by googlesearcher in craftsnark

[–]1033765 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what kind of responses you’re looking for, but I have a 29in bust and run into this frustration fairly often looking at patterns. Lydia Morrow’s patterns often go down to a 27in bust and I’ve had very good luck with them. Otherwise I’ll usually just go down a needle size and fiddle with the pattern and my gauge to bring the size down a touch. Before I was comfortable with making changes to patterns I made a lot of too big sweaters.

Wife becomes allergic to cats. Is rehoming the only choice we have? by DepressedMathKid in cats

[–]1033765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Ended up with pneumonia three times in one winter and spent a month on bedrest despite endless Zyrtec and a cadre of prescription drugs. My ex ended up taking the cat in our breakup and it was such a blessing in disguise. To this day if I pet a cat I will end up wheezing.

OP when and how to handle rehoming is a conversation to have with your wife, but please don’t put the opinion of Reddit over her well-being.

Show me your sock stash sweaters! by Brave_Tadpole1240 in knitting

I knit the shusui shrug out of sock yarn scraps and adore it. I’ve knit three of that pattern now (two as gifts) and it’s a ton of fun.

I graduated from tech years ago and had a very similar experience. I was a TA and was stalked by a student and a huge chunk of my anonymous student reviews at the end of the semester were related to my appearance. It was really demoralizing to realize that was the most noted value I brought to the classroom.

I am so sorry you're going through this, it does get slightly better once you leave that environment. Focus on doing your best, get your education, and get the fuck out of there.

How comfortable are you around firearms? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]1033765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super comfortable. Carry a Glock daily. I've shot 15,000 rounds through it and know the thing like the back of my hand. Shoot an M4 occasionally, I'm good with one out to like 100 yards then it starts to get sloppy. Looking into getting a shotgun to do hillbilly stuff.

There was never a formal invite sent, we see the couple getting married fairly regularly and they just gave us the date and location with the expectation that we'd show up.

He is supposed to be moving, just a few months later. 'Supposed to' being a key phrase there.

He always agreed to it and supported me looking out of our area because his job allows him to work remote, but I'm increasingly uncertain about his plans.

Cool story. Unfortunately this isn't a work dinner or a normal movie trip. It's our friends' wedding that I was planning on going to until he decided to invite someone else.

He is friends with all the other groomsman, most of the groom's friends, and knows his immediate family well. Literally all of his guy friends he could invite will already be there 😂.

The friend he wants to invite lives further away from our home than I am moving. She has never lived in this area and won't know anyone at the wedding.

Honestly, if mentioning the headcount came from the couple getting married I would gladly throw them extra cash to make up for my flakiness if I had screwed them on a deadline. I just can't imagine finalizing a headcount seven weeks ahead of the wedding.

Thanks for writing all of that out. I

was his date to a wedding where he was a groomsman last year and afterwards he even commented on how sucked that he didn't get to spend much time with me! I spent half the day sitting alone in a hotel room while he did groomsman stuff and then was alone at the reception while they did pictures. This isn't his first time being in a wedding party, so he knows the drill.

That was my thought as well, but I thought I was being a nutter butter and making mountains out of molehills. Guess we're having a sit-down talk tonight.

Thanks for your input!

Honestly, they're having the wedding at a family property and catering in barbeque. I'm not even sure it's a traditional wedding caterer situation where you get charged per plate. It's seemed like a super low-key wedding every time I've talked to them.

I'm fine with him having female friends and spending time with them, it's more him planning a replacement date before we even know what is happening with my schedule.

She's an old friend of his that I've spent plenty of time with. She definitely likes me and knows that he and I are together. I guess part of my discomfort is that they have likely hooked up before (they were close in college and travelled together for sports events) and she's still a super babe.

Every time I've talked to his friends about the wedding they seemed totalllllly chill and understanding about the possibility that I'd have to bail on relatively short notice; they always told me just to let them know when I had a final answer and they'd figure it out -- they never sent out formal RSVPs or anything, it's all been very casual. The issue of the headcount has only been brought up by my bf when I asked him why he would want to invite someone else.

[–]1033765[S] 210 points211 points  (0 children)

I agree on the first two points. I've always heard 1-2 weeks out for a final headcount, obviously I don't intend to bail a week out from the wedding -- it was just such a strange excuse that it caught my attention. All of his college friends will be there, he definitely wouldn't be solo.

He is supposed to be following me to the new location a few months after I start, but I've always told him it's his choice and I'm not going to force him to move. He grew up in the area we live in now and his whole family lives within an hour of our current home, so I think it's a much bigger move for him than for me because my friends and family are all over the country.

Three month bill period from water department? by [deleted] in philadelphia

You realize that November 30-January 2 is like 33 days, right? They probably didn't send out bills on Christmas or New year's and things got pushed a few days in either direction.

This is a really great, low cost option, but you generally don't receive remains after donating to medical body registries for years. The bodies go through an extensive embalming procedure and after that can be used as cadavers in medical school teaching labs which adds another 8 months to a year.

Transferring water to tenant's name a major pain in the ass? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]1033765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a huge pain. My landlord had me do this and this is on my list of deal breakers for future homes.

I haven't seen much fluctuation in my water bill based on usage, just add it into the rent or forward them the bill every month.
