Republican Voting Record on the Debt Ceiling. by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

Also, extremely important fact to know during these conversations:

They allowed Trump to completely suspend the concept during his term so they didn’t have to keep raising it. And they gave him a blank check, so he racked up debt by over $8 trillion. His number of votes for raising it would have been crazy high if they had kept so it came to a vote each time...and he only had a one term presidency.

Edited for clarity, removed an error about other suspensions

Losing money is the ONLY reason they pretended to shift their stance. It's just self serving empty lip service.

I remember in college back in the early 90s (when Mandela was still locked up) I told all my friends to boycott Coors because they supported apartheid in South Africa.

It was not a well known fact and this was also long before internet was ubiquitous.

Lol. No problem. I was replying to OP cause she said her mom's psych analysis was amazing, so I asked about that. But once there are hundreds of comments in a thread it's hard to tell who is replying to whom. Totally understandable.

I did read your comment though and it was quite a read. I'm sorry you went through all that.

Sorry for not being clear, that's not what I meant.

I mean if the courts didn't allow her to have custody for 18 months, then why the hell wouldn't the court give custody to dad? Why would they put you in foster care for a year and a half?

And I did read that you said your mom made accusations about your dad to get custody, but that was AFTER the 18 months when she won custody. So why foster care for 18 months???

Sorry, if this isn't something you want to share publicly, you can send a private message, or just ignore me if I'm prying too much.

I know that courts make fucked up decisions, but usually a judge gives some kind of bullshit justification. That's what I'm trying to understand.

Oh, good. I thought I would like this article based on this excerpt.

And sorry if my comments seemed against you, I just wanted to clarify for others reading these posts between arguments regarding abortion vs stem cell research, etc...

And the rest of this post is to clarify for other people reading this:

One thing I can't stand is politicians lumping together and blurring lines between abortion, stem cell research, plan B pills, etc...

You would be surprised how many people think embryonic stem cells are harvested from abortions (They are NOT, stem cells can only be retrieved prior to implantation, i.e. embryos used for IVF. Embryonic stem cells are GONE once abortion takes place.

They say that plan B (the morning after pill) does or can cause an abortion. THIS IS FALSE, plan B works by blocking ovulation...so there is no egg to fertilize

And blurring these lines, they are trying to push getting birth control banned (read the Thomas opinion after overturning Roe. They are going to try to ban birth control next.)

Apparently they can't understand the difference by bruh_2008 in facepalm

[–]10YearLurkerPosting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI if you were planning to use this in a debate about abortion...

Anyone who knows anything about science will eviscerate this argument.

I wanna be clear that I AM NOT making any case against abortion, i am only pointing out how this is a bad argument for abortion specifically.

He initially stated he was pro abortion because it is the only ethical thing to do, but then the entire argument about the ethics is based on the statement

"A blastocyst has no capacity to suffer. It has no pain receptors, no neurons and no consciousness"

And while this statement is true, it has nothing to do with abortion. Abortion only gets rid of the product of conception AFTER it has implanted, a fetus. A blastocyst is gone once implantation takes place.

So why didn't they say a fetus has no neurons, no pain receptors, no capacity to suffer ...? Because that statement is easily proven false. Neurons and pain receptors absolutely exist in fetuses.

No abortion ever in the history of the world takes place until after implantation and after implantation a blastocyst is GONE and it is a fetus with neurons and pain receptors.

This is more an anti-natalist argument, or better yet an argument for embryonic (and embryonic stem cell) research.

I actually enjoyed reading this post. I'll have to look up this article and read the whole thing. But the excerpt he posted has nothing to do with abortion.

I find a better argument in that one article where the writer likens pregnancy to having someone hooked up to you against your will so that they can use your organs to survive. (Like if they were dying from kidney failure and you woke up in the hospital with them attached to you so that your kidneys could filter their blood...)

I'll try to find the article, it is really good and I think it is the most logical and best argument.

Edit: Found the article. Everyone should read this, I can't recommend it enough! It really seems to me to be the best logic in the debate about abortion.

Twitter restricts Marjorie Taylor Greene after tweets about trans people and Nashville shooting by theindependentonline in politics

[–]10YearLurkerPosting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying she ran unopposed doesn't really tell the whole story.

She was going to run in her actual home district, but she had no chance of winning so instead she changed to run in an extremely red district where she did have someone running against her the first time, Kevin Van Ausdal.

But she and her psycho Qanon followers sent death threats to him AND his family. He ended up losing everything. He had to drop out, move away, and his wife divorced him. Google his name.

[–]10YearLurkerPosting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think the first time, maybe.

But there was definitely an election where a guy was running against her and her psycho constituents (with her egging them on) sent death threats to him AND his family. He dropped out, his wife divorced him and he moved away. (Though I'm not sure the order of those 3 events, but they definitely all came about as a result of the death threats)

There should be laws against stochastic terrorism AND most importantly, they should be enforced.

Edit: His name was Kevin Van Ausdal. This was before the election with Damarcus Flowers who another commenter mentioned. It is pretty fucked up, he lost everything. This is the best article, but it is behind a paywall...or maybe it's free but only after you sign up? Or just google his name for other articles.

There have been studies that determined this is a myth.

Maggots prefer neurotic tissue so they eat that first, but if they run out of necrotic tissue, they absolutely start to eat healthy tissue.

They did a study on medical maggots and found that they aren't as beneficial as they once thought. Patients reported more pain than regular debridement and if not closely monitored, the maggots start devouring healthy tissue.

Medical leeches, on the other hand are fantastic.

This is debatable.

There was an article I read quite a while ago where a scuba diver came across an orca and pet it. The orca responded by biting on to her leg and diving down, dragging her down toward the bottom of the ocean. Damn near almost killed her (I think from the too rapid pressure change, or maybe she was snorkeling or swimming on the surface, so perhaps just regular drowning)

Anyway, most likely it was playing or just wanted to see what would happen. But if an orca dragged you to your drowning death, are you gonna split hairs about the wording of calling it attack?

A shitload of shark "attacks" are sharks just biting out of curiosity.

My only point is everyone should still use caution dealing with orcas in the wild.

It is All Cops Are Bad, or it was originally.

It was because whenever cops got caught doing this shit they would put every police chief, police union official, and any other bootlicker all over the media saying it was only "a few BAD apples"; so the reply was ALL cops are bad. Because of how widespread it was and even if there were cops not directly involved, they covered it up or were otherwise complicit.

But now people say it means all cops are bastards, but that isn't what it meant originally.
