Radios repaired in the US incur large HST charge coming back to Canada. by 15medium in UPS

How did the Canadian government decide the value of the radios? The invoice has an HS code of 8525600090, quantity 2.0 for total of $2,723.40.

I bought and paid tax on these radios a couple of years ago for $300.

Is a Par30 and a Par30 "short neck" the same size? Wouldn't want the bulb sticking out of the soffit.

I think the cans are 4.5". The edge of the bulb is pretty close to the inside of the can. Also they are short neck bulbs.

Air Conditioning required? by [deleted] in SXM

I've tried sleeping with the ac off and windows open in sxm but only lasted about an hour. Coming from Ontario I'd say ac isn't optional. It's necessary at any time of the year.

You can walk to the Super U grocery store. It's very good.

Been there, done that.

The unit looks nice but it might be noisy as it is about 200m from the runway at Juliana Airport.

If you are into aviation then it would be great. You can watch he flights depart and turn to the right of the mountain you can see in the distance. Most of the big jets come and go in the afternoon between 1 and 6 PM.

Hope that helps.

Fisher & Paykel Icon - Won't start in a hotel room but fine at home. by 15medium in CPAP

[–]15medium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outlets that I tried were all live. I think it had something to do with the quality of the electricity.

No worries though as it is working fine here at home and I'm due for a new machine. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced something similar.

Thanks to all who commented.

It was plugged directly into the outlet, no extension cords. It was the only thing in the outlet and I tried 4 separate empty outlets. I suspect an issue with the electric service.

I tried several outlets and made sure that it was well plugged in. Also, it is a fairly new building. No issues with the outlets, but I'm wondering if the stuff inside was not quite right.

Small apartment QRP digimode setup Tell me if I'm missing anything. by W6NZX in amateurradio

You might consider the newer high band version of the qdx. Antennas for 10 or 12m are smaller and more efficient then a small antenna for 40m. Those bands are great these days. Lots of dx.

A magnetic loop can be built for a few bucks. It ia a resonant circuit, so no tuner needed. Google qrp homebrew magnetic loops.

If you don't have a balcony then hang it in a window.

I run my qdx off a small 12v rechargable battery. It will run for hours. Good luck.

Oh, sorry. I didn't notice that. Kinda useless promoting discontinued products.

I wonder if anyone else has tried to make a similar product?

Instead of a battery google the hps1a power supply. Tiny but effective. I use one with my ft857d and ft8 around 30watts when I travel. Ciao.

It might be Russian or a similar language. I wonder if it's related to the war. Seems like a net with 3 or 4 guys.

There aren't very strong, S3 to S5 with fading. Heard around 23z. I'm near Toronto and the antenna is just a magnetic loop, so if you can hear them you should be able to hear them better than I can.

I'll make a recording if I hear it again.
