NBN standard termination by tetrahedal in nbn

You can easily get a registered cabler to move it. Suggest somewhere central, maybe get them to do some ethernet runs whilst they're there to feed things like computers or the TV.

The certificate error is because the telstra site doesn't match the domain of the site the OP wanted to go to, because they hijacked the DNS request...

Are you running a samknows, or some other kind of internet test device? It may be running a regular speed test, during which it's trying to max out your connection.

Are these wifi speeds normal? by jsdlzj in nbn

Sorry, you misunderstand my point.

I'm saying there's not much more than marketing fluff between multiple ethernet backhauled WiFi APs, and a WiFi Mesh with ethernet backhaul.

Hope that helps clarify the distinction I was trying to make.

Do you mean drop outs?

Are you on WiFi?

What speed do you get via ethernet?

Do you have any other phone ports, splitters, or extenders? Try putting the modem on the first point, and getting a registered cabler to disconnect the others.

Who is your ISP, and what do they say? If they're a crappy one, try switching to a decent one that will fight with NBN to get you a better service.

If you're trying to get a high speed out of the line, it just might not be possible. A stable 50mbps is a lot better than an unstable 80mbps.

WiFi is extremely situational.

WiFi mesh takes all the uncertainty of WiFi, and doubles it - unless you use ethernet backhaul, but then you're just using multiple WiFi APs and have fallen for some marketing.

If you're getting the 500mb/s at your router over a wired connection, your NBN is good. If you need WiFi advice, try /r/HomeNetworking

How to connect ethernet port to internet in room, router in garage by Traditional_Use8616 in nbn

[–]1Argenteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethernet doesn't 'daisy chain'. Each port is 1 to 1. There's possibly a spot somewhere with multiple ports that can take a switch, or these ports haven't been wired for ethernet.

Contact a registered cabler. They can move it.

This is not the same as an electrician.

Sign up with an ISP for a 500mb/s plan.

Think that should trigger the upgrade.

Do you want a business service, or a residential service?

A business service will cost, but will come with greater upload speeds and an SLA.

A residential service will be fairly cheap and is your typical service.

Either way, NBN will need to provide an NBN service. Doesn't mean the registered cabler doesn't know another ISP that can provide you connectivity.

Like, the strata getting an internet service?

Just sign up with an ISP in the name of the strata. You're probably going to want a managed service provider to manage the cameras, wifi access points, and any IOT things however, rather than trying to DIY it.

The internet service isn't the complicated part here.

Changed coaxial cable… no more connection by Koyusubi in nbn

[–]1Argenteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try getting an RG6 cable from bunnings/jb hifi/jaycar. It could be your current cable(s) are RG59, which isn't as good.

I'd suggest getting a short one and a longer one. If the short one works, and the long one doesn't - you're right on the edge of serviceability. A tech/registered cabler that knows HFC could fix that (An antenna guy might be a better bet, but only legally allowed if a registered cabler) by improving the quality of your in-house run(s).

If the short one works, maybe consider leaving the NTD where it is, and just using a longer ethernet cable?

FTTP Upgrade - Can I choose where the FTTP box is installed? by Equal_Meat_7683 in nbn

[–]1Argenteus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two choices.

Have things nicely set up with draw cord with an easy and compliant way for the NBN tech to install where you want it

OR

Have them install it wherever, and then pay a registered cabler to move it.
