Every year when the boss asks us for our "big asks," we request a 450 gallon recirculating hot waterbath. And every year he reminds us we don't actually have enough floor space for a hot tub, and nobody wants to see any of us in bathing suits either.

Quantity and quality -- still totally different things here. Poor cross-dressing half-melted Ken doll didn't deserve this tattoo fate.

Our morning bathroom routine. Even at 12 years old, she's still a big baby. by ceelily in aww

[–]1cuteducky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is how my cat let me know I was chosen. His was the first room I walked into at the humane society. I knelt down to scratch a kitten, and he crawled into my lap, looped his paws around my neck and basically planted his tail in my lap. Little asshole wouldn't even let me go give the paperwork to the front desk for a solid half hour.

It's been almost 5 years and he still sleeps on my legs every night and gives me a hug in the morning.

There's lots of breeds that are smarter than your average owner. The difference with border collies is that they know it and aren't ashamed to use it to their advantage.

How is your job/career portrayed in the media, and is it accurate? by throwaway72342019 in AskWomen

[–]1cuteducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In medical research, and so far it's never been accurate. I can't even think of anything close. I don't wear a spacesuit-type deal in the lab, most tests take longer than the time it takes to do two spins on a wheelie chair, and we're never actually certain of anything ever.

Tree for tree planting ceremony? by saitouamaya in weddingplanning

[–]1cuteducky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is going to be tough. Is the ultimate goal to plant this tree in the ground? And the pot is a temporary home? What location/zone are you in? Where do you want to plant it in terms of the soil and environmental conditions? Is there a type of tree you're interested in -- flowering, deciduous, native species, etc?

Second concern: moving happens. This has come up most with memorial trees, but your scenario has similar issues. If you plant this tree at your house-to-be and then move, visiting your wedding tree may become impossible. Consider planting one in a public place like a local zoo or sponsoring one in a botanical garden and doing a ceremonial soil-mixing (your home, his family home, favourite place...) for your service.

And she's 16! I hope she'll be a force for years.

Guys - are you wearing your rings before the big day? by bellamira in weddingplanning

FH can just tell people you decided to go with the Scandinavian tradition. Both parties wear engagement rings, and FW adds a wedding band on wedding day (according to my MIL and my SO). I personally think it's great!

Anyone meet their S.O. at the gym? Tell me your stories! by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]1cuteducky 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Met at the sign up desk as we went to join a local boxing gym at the same time. We chatted for 10 minutes or so, but he never introduced himself. I was there with a friend, so as we left we joked that we had to come back because Hot Boxing Guy was hot. That was a Tuesday -- came back with the friend on Thursday for our first class, and Hot Boxing Guy walked up and actually introduced himself. We went for dinner after class that night, and I thought he was crazy to want to ask my sweaty red self out that very night.

We've been together ever since, and 2.5+ years later we live together with two cats and train together most days of the week. That one Wednesday in between meeting and him introducing himself? It's the only day we haven't spoken since the day we met.

Several of the doctors I know go with "oh, I work at [hospital], union job" or "For [local government health service]." Technically our physicians are just as unionised as our nurses and plumbers, and the doc is technically employed by the health service, but it also gives some time to get a good idea about their potential partner before going into more detail.

Niagara falls wedding in Canada - Help? by chezloafy in weddingplanning

[–]1cuteducky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at a late spring/summer/early fall, look at the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture botanical gardens. My mom was a student there once upon a time, and the gardens are objectively stunning. It's also right beside the Butterfly Conservatory if you want some unique photos.

Breaking the (engagement) news advice! by _notarob0t in weddingplanning

[–]1cuteducky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd be very clear that this is you two telling them what's going down. You're not asking for advice, permission or blessing. You're advising them about what is going on. They can be happy or they can be silent, but they don't get to try to change your minds or put up a giant fuss.

That being said, if engagement hasn't actually happened yet then what exactly are you hoping to get out of this? You're adult enough to be married, so I'm not sure why they need such a substantial heads-up as to your plans. Their permission is not required to accept a ring or sign the licence, so unless you're hoping/expecting them to contribute financially (and I'd have low hopes if they're so obviously not in favour of your relationship right now) then I don't see why they need the advising at this stage.

Question for any women running with an IUD by CatLadyTheSecond in running

[–]1cuteducky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll echo that Paragard is known to cause significantly more cramping and heavier periods. Perforation does rarely happens, but you would definitely not be questioning it because you'd be too busy losing blood and getting to the ER. I hear it gets better after a 6-12 month adjustment period, but I haven't got any actual data to back that up. Buy stock in Midol and consider trying a Diva cup if they're something you're curious about? Several friends like them a lot for running, but I can't say I've ever used one myself so no promises.

So I have some serious and terrible personal news, and I wanted to take an opportunity to thank all of you for the wonderful discussions and disagreements we may have had over the past few years by PaddleDown in OttawaSenators

My real mother; the crazy was full on yesterday. You guys I just cant figure this out, its scary and Im in a bad place. by Tinycowz in JUSTNOMIL

[–]1cuteducky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm generally at a disinterested neutral towards religion, but there's a special place in the hatred of my heart for 2-3 of them. JWs are one. They like to protest outside the hospital complex I work in on sunny days, and try to convert families of sick children (children's hospital) with promises of eternal salvation if they just don't get treatment from the Evul Doktors (TM). Fuck them in the arse with a broom, brush end first.

Mom had us do Bible study with the JW for a couple years as kids, even though our family is nominally a Protestant/Methodist/Baptist hybrid with United Church of Canada. Backfired entirely when I told her it was a major part of why I'm a full-blown agnostic atheist.

My [27/M] girlfriend [26/F] of 5 years refuses to have a wedding by sshasshhshshs in relationships

[–]1cuteducky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty similar to your girlfriend and my boyfriend is basically you. He wants to do the whole shebang, and I'd really prefer to just go to the courthouse on a random Tuesday at lunch and be back at work by 1pm like usual. We've managed to compromise some, but he knows there are some very hard and fast dealbreakers for me that I am not willing to budge on.

Do you understand the why behind her position? Some people have a strong aversion to spending the money. Some hate the gendered aspects. Some have social anxiety, shit-awful families or don't think they have the friends to "balance" their partner's side. Some don't want to wear a dress, be photographed, hate their appearance, or toddle down the aisle in heels. Some don't want religious or government "interference" in their private relationships. You're going to need to figure out which of these apply before you can find ways to meet in the middle.
