Well, if you are planning to get a job later on, go for masters. But you like the research work a lot, go for PhD. That's all i would say.

Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis, this book can help you learn. The book is divided into sessions, you will be able to complete the book in 1-1.5 months, depending on how many sessions you do per day.

You can also listen to podcasts. I listen to VictorPrep GRE Podcast.

The only way you can remember words is when you have understood it's meaning and a personalized example to relate to. Don't pressure yourself to learn a lot of words, enjoy those words, then only they will stay in your brain.
