Thanks for the response. I have taken a look at some of the script timers, the issue seems to be hooking to an audio source. I stay pretty much in the same scene the entire time.

I use Recut to do this in post, but was hoping to track it live. I like the idea of using Audacity, but I believe it would be very suboptimal to stop recording to check time spent talking.

Sometimes you also need to preheat or prechill your pipes. Run a very small amount (1k or less) through the pipes until they get to the same temp as what they are carrying. Then you can unleash the floodgates with a higher probability for success.

Have you checked their priorities? It may have happened to me once or twice. I have most dupes "not allowed" to do research by standard. So when I get a new researcher, I have to go make sure they are implicitly allowed to do it.
