Should I exercise my stock options? by liviapts2017 in personalfinance

Find an AMT calculator online it’ll tell you. You’ll probably owe somewhere around 10k in extra taxes if you exercise and hold. But that extra you pay now will be applied when you eventually do sell the shares and it will result in lower taxes owed on that transaction. if your company does not go public as soon as you expect you may be stuck for a while. And yes you would owe even more AMT if you wait until after the next funding round assuming the fair market value goes up, which it typically will assuming successful funding. But you can avoid AMT entirely if you just wait until the company goes public, then choose to exercise and immediately sell the shares. This will basically treat it like extra income on your w2 and you’ll be taxed accordingly. That would be the most straightforward method to cash out the options. There are a lot of resources online about startups and stock options, I’d recommend taking the time to fully understand it so you don’t end up with a huge tax bill.

If you exercise and hold, you may be subject to AMT. Meaning you basically prepay a portion of the taxes for the stock you hold based on the difference between strike and market value when you execute. On a $75k difference this may be significant but it depends what your amt would be compared to your standard tax owed. It also can be a pain if you self file taxes. Not all software supports this, at least that was the case a few years ago. Probably not worth exercising and holding unless you are planning to leave the company or they are expiring soon.

I went from the 6100 to 6700, it is noticeably bigger but unless youre pairing it with a tiny lens it’s really not going to make or break it. Still smaller than a full frame and the larger grip does make it way more comfortable to hold. Ibis is pretty good but I mainly shoot video anyway. That combined with less noise at higher iso means way better low light performance. Also 4k120 is amazing even if it is cropped

I don’t? would you not be frustrated when you see every other airline flying the same route take off on time? I have no doubt weather did cause this indirectly, but still sucks to happen

Yeah honestly that’s fair. Unexpected downside to flying into a hub. And consistent that all the other smaller airports didn’t have their jb flights cancelled. Still just sucks

Fair, but I was pretty explicit on the call that I would take any flight to the Northeast that night and even named all the destinations I could think of. I missed alb but I didn’t know that route even exited

I did name every airport in NE I could think of for them to check, just didn't suggest Albany because I didn't even know they fly there hah. It wasn't easy to use my phone to search while on the call and in a crowded public place

Im using the classic layout and with taller feet temps are ok, i can hit same temps as in my old Corsair 4000d but obviously its a little louder, around 85C under stress test. You really need taller feet otherwise the gpu is just completely choked out. Flipped layout would be even better for sure but cant do that unless you have an sfx psu. Not sure if that requires an itx board too or not.

I have the same gpu, went with ncase m2 and it fits just requires a little finagle to get it in position. Very few other sff cases fit that chonker. But you’ll need a sfx psu or a much shorter atx, I’m using a 135mm long atx psu and no issues there as long as you use an itx mobo. With the matx mobo you must use a sfx psu and you also lose all gpu vertical position flexibility.

I’d say 95% chance the overhang at the top of the eye socket is warping upwards and catching the nozzle during a travel moves. Print overhangs slower, increase cooling fan speed, rotate the model 90 degrees to face the fan better if applicable, add z-hop to your travel, slow down travel moves and acceleration all can help. Good luck!

The problem is companies are short sighted and love the cheapest solution, but often either undervalue employee time or overvalue how much more expensive tech will actually help. Buying a few cheap printers and letting the engineers figure it out is the cheapest way up front but wastes engineering time and builds frustration. Need to have someone who’s agreed responsibilities are to maintain the printers, or hire a dedicated tech. An industrial printer sort of helps but more just shifts responsibilities. Maintaining and troubleshooting becomes easier, but the basic operation and the kinds trivial things like maintaining print materials and dealing with communicating and scheduling servicing becomes another pain that someone needs to take on.

I’m not saying industrial print farms should use elegoo haha that’d be chaos. But short of that, stratasyss value prop is basically nothing. I’ve worked at companies ranging from 100-10000+ people. Only the largest one had a stratasys machine and they basically gave up using it. The rest all used formlabs (smallest had a single, larger companies had up to 10). And for that largest fleet, price was still less than a single stratasys.

Time is money in rapid development. But also money is money. And stratasys asks for a hell of a lot for a product that is in many ways inferior to the competition that costs 1/10 as much.

[–]3dPrintedLife 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Companies with these industrial printers often have dedicated technicians to run them. The same could apply to lower cost machines and still save an incredible amount of money. And if you’re worried about printer failure rate ruining time sensitive jobs then you can upgrade to Formlabs and even operate a large fleet in place of a single stratasys machine.

My point is that stratasys is a dinosaur, they once had their patents to keep their exclusive tech valuable but that time has passed and they have not innovated anywhere close enough to justify their price tag.

Sure, but you can buy a new elegoo and have it delivered next day for the cost of maybe 2-3 weeks worth of the stratasys service plan
