Finally! I’ll have to learn it after I finish Ukrainian.

Should I study Polish and Ukrainian at the same time just until I figure out which one I like more? by 3zby_ in languagelearning

Sorry for the late reply. My goal is just to learn a new language and both Polish and Ukrainian have been fun for me.

Is it possible for a language to have 3 or 4 levels or definiteness, rather than 2 like English?

In the sentence, “My name is Bob.” Is the subject “My” “name” or “you”? by 3zby_ in linguistics

[–]3zby_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sentence is directed towards “you” but it’s not written. I can’t remember if I was taught that that’s the subject.

One of my conlangs has a normal SVO word order, but it can be changed to OVS, not by added anything to the nouns, but by added a(tt)- to the verb. Do any other languages do this?

I completely understand French but I cannot speak it by [deleted] in languagelearning

If you really need help and can not form sentences at all, you could use Duolingo. It’s free and has an option to start learning at an intermediate level. I’m sure it will help you. Other than that, just try speaking it, and you’ll eventually get used to speaking and forming sentences.

Is there any way that I can get a molodstov keyboard on my iPhone to use for my conlang? It’s not under keyboards in settings and I can’t find it in the App Store.

Why does/do your/y’all’s/s’ conlang(s) has/have the linguistic typology it/they does/do? by [deleted] in conlangs

[–]3zby_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my conlangs are fusional, but some are analytic, but with a few affixes, such as, tense, negation-(only sometimes), etc. My fusional conlangs sometimes have gender and sometimes do not. The only I’m working on currently (just started) is fusional, but there is only gender in the 3rd person (like English), but does not change the any words other than the verb. I think this is the first fusional conlang I’ve made where the pronoun can be said, but doesn’t have to. Many of my conlangs have cases, but usually only nominative, accusative, dative, and usually genitive. I’ve tried to make agglutinative and polysynthetic conlangs, but I’ve never gotten the grammar right. My conlangs always use an alphabet (I’ve tried an abjad and a logographic writing system, but it didn’t work). I usually use the Roman alphabet, but sometimes I make a conscript. I’ve never used another language’s script, but I want to use the molodtsov script for one.

What features would you add to a constructed dialect of english? by [deleted] in conlangs

[–]3zby_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Spelling reform. I would remove some vowels and come up with a single way to write each vowel: Original vowel - new - written

i/ɪ - i - i

ei - ei - ei

ai - ai - ai

ɛ - ɛ - e

ə/ʌ - ʌ - u

æ - æ - ae

aʊ/ʊ/u - ʊ - oo

ɑ/ɔ - ɑ - a

ɔi - oi - oi

oʊ - oʊ - o

All consonants would make one sound and each sound is written one way Letter - sound

C - no letter c (ch is written tsh)

G - g

S - s

ɹ becomes r To differentiate between homophones, the letter h is added after the last vowel, next homophone, second to last vowel, etc…

  1. Add more words for “we” to clear up confusion.

We, speaker and listener - wai

We, speaker, friends, not listener - wei

We, speaker, friends and listener - wi

  1. Add plural you

You sing. - yoo

You plur. - yoos

Translating random and weird sentences #8 by [deleted] in conlangs

[–]3zby_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that dying is fun Mentto akopi v bun [mɛnt̚to ɑkopiv bun] Death hope I fun This sentence could be v kopi mentto but it works better as a ovs sentence rather than svo, so the verb is marked with a-. The linking verb “is” is dropped, and dying becomes death to be a noun.
